Sorolla Early Life<br />Born February 1863 in Valencia, Spain (Died August 10th, 1923, age 60)<br />Raised by his uncle and aunt<br />Parents died when he was 2<br />His uncle tired to teach him the art of being a locksmith but he was more passionate about art.<br />Enrolled himself in after school drawing classes at age 11<br />At age 16 entered into Vacenia’sEscuela Superior de BellasArtes de San Carlos and proceded to develop his artistic talents. <br />

Start of His Life as an Artist<br />At age 18 moved to Madrid.<br />Started to study master paintings in the Museo del Prado.<br />At age 22 obtained a grant which enabled him to go to Rome, Italy to study paintings.<br />In 1885 went to Paris and got his first exposure to modern paintings. <br />Married in 1888, had three children by 1895. They moved to Madrid where he focused mainly on the production of large canvas paintings. <br />
  4. 4. Historical Period<br />During the early 20th century war was advancing and technologies were advancing also. This caused more powerful nations in the war and the start of World War One in 1914. <br />Paris was the artistic capital of the world. <br />Culture spread rapidly over the world through movies, fashion trends, and music.<br />Modern architecture took over the decoration of the4 Victorian era.<br />

Pictorial Movement<br />Influenced by impressionism.<br />Fused impressionism with his classical art training.<br />He had a very joyous style and was able to play light over the bright surfaces of things. <br />Most of his paintings are of people in sunny places like of his native Valencia, Spain.<br />He is able to use colors in a way that makes them look so natural and real to each other. <br />

More Art Work<br />Sewing the Sail Boat <br />Year 1896<br />Uses very natural colors and play on light. <br />Impressionism type painting.<br />There are people in this painting along with nature around the edges.<br />There are soft rounded shapes<br />Nothing really has a defined shape to it. No harsh edges.<br />
