2. He was born in Madrid on March 23rd 1887. He was a Spanish sculptor and painter, who operated from France for the most of his life. He studied mechanical drawing at the Escuela de Artes y Manufacturas in Madrid from 1902 to 1904. From 1904 to 1905 he studied painting with the academic artist José Maria Carbonero. Strict geometric patters characterized most of Juan’s his work. The use of vivid colors, done in harmonious tone, characterized Gris’ style. Exacting and explicit are the words that can come close to describing Gris’ artworks.
