Describe how the classroom is structured/designed to allow everyone to participate in the learning activities. Relate the data in your checklist to the learners’ behavior. Reflects on how classroom management affects learning.
    • An Observation Guide for the Learner’s CharacteristicsRead the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the providedspace. 1. As you observed the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note theirages. 2. How many boys are there? How many girls? 3. Focus on the behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior? 4. Can the learners already work independently? 5. Describe their span of attention. 6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate. Name of the School Observed Binalbagan Catholic College – High School Department__ Location of the School San Gregorio, Village, Binalbagan Negros Occidental___________ Date of Visit August 10-24, 2010_____________________________________________ 1. As I have observed, the age of the learners do not vary talking about their behavior and characteristics for the reason that I witnessed there are some students who are very participative and cooperative in the class but there are also students who do not involved themselves in class discussion. 2. In one classroom that I have observed, the number of girls is greater than the number of boys. Students can move freely. 3. Some of them can managed their own behavior already by showing total self- discipline especially when it comes to class discussion but there are also students who like to wait for their teacher to remind them to stop doing things which could destruct their classmates attention. 4. Ofcourse yes, they can handle and accomplished task it if is only self clarifying but some of them can no longer worked independently when it comes to a serious type of task which needs the guidance and helped of others. 5. The span of students’ attention depends on how the teacher motivates the whole class. Just what other students says, they would only participate in the class if the teacher is jolly and enthusiastic. But in contrast, I came to think; that this statement may depends on how a certain student involved himself/herself in the classroom discussion. 6. Most of the students pay attention to their teacher; they lend their senses every time the teacher is conducting a lesson. That is why; they can answer the question of their teacher when asking them a certain question according to what they touched in lecture.

It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can verify yourobservation. Write your notes below, and then organize your data in the table that follows. 1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids,books, students’ belongings, supplies, etc.) 2. Are there rules and procedures in the room. 3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? 4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance, assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done? 5. Is there a setting arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement? 6. Observe the noise level of the classroom. How is this managed? 7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher do? (behavior strategies) 8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors? (behavior strategies)Observation notes: 1. The classroom area planned and ordered. 2. The classroom rules are posted in the wall of the room thus every student will be remind if ever they commit mistake. 3. The teacher starts the class with an opening prayer, followed by checking of attendance, then the teacher asked for someone in the class to give a simple recall of what they have discussed from their previous meeting. And then, the teacher proceeds to the discussion as the start of their new lesson. 4. Students are arranged according to their height. 5. The teacher asked every student to participate and cooperate in the class. 6. The teacher is enthusiastic and lively when conducting a lesson. 7. The teacher is approachable and amiable. 8. The class is not noisy. 9. The voice of the teacher is sensible giving other students to participate to especially those who are seating at the back. 10. The teacher reinforced the learner for showing positive behavior by saying “Ok, very good answer.”

    • Your Analysis1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’ behavior? The classroom organization and routines affects the behavior of the learner’s intheir five human aspects. It is because when the classroom is organized and routines arealways done by the teacher and the students. Thus, those students who don’t havehigher attention before will gradually change especially for those who are not fond ofjoining the activity made by the teacher.2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/designs the organization androutines? What theories and principles should you have in mind? I think the teacher should bear in his/her that daily organization and routinesdepend on the age the learner. Since there are also students who possessed differentactions, characteristics, and behavior when it comes to daily routines which used by theteacher. Furthermore, the teacher should design routines that fit to the students and theprinciples of Jean Piaget theory and principles are very applicable on this.3. What behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners?In motivating the students? Why were they effective? In my own opinion, it is very effective when the teacher should be strict in termsof class discussion because as I have observed, this could help the learner to strive hardand to ensure themselves to participate in the discussion. And it is also a matter ofdiscipline for students who feel tired in school especially for those students who are fondof “pawala lang” and not giving the value of how education can change their lives andtheir future. Therefore, I can say that this is very effective in motivating the attention ofthe students who have less able in attention in the classroom.
    • Your Reflections1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level do yousee yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why? I see myself teaching fourth year students. Similar to others, I will do the same routineswhich are very applicable in my students. The routines that I will consider for this level are thefollowing: First, I will start my class with an opening prayer; praying that my students willparticipate and cooperate in my class, secondly, I will check their attendance; for me to knowwho are absent and late, thirdly, by asking my students about the previous meeting discussion,then I will ask him/her to give a brief explanation from the previous topic. And lastly, I willproceed to the new topic to be discussed. If my students have no more questions about thetopic, subsequently I will give them a short quiz for me to determine who among of the classunderstand the lessons clearly.2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choosethese rules? The following are the rules that I want to implementin my class:1. Eating during class hours is not allowed.2. Talking while the teacher is discussing is taboo.3. Students are not allowed to enter the class without wearing their proper uniform and ID.4. Ignorance of the law excuses no one.5. Encourage the students to speak in English.6. Male students are not allowed to wear earrings and dangling in my classroom.7. Both male and female students must observe personal hygiene and neatness at all times.8. Male students must observe proper haircut.9. Students are entrusted when to clean the room before leaving.10. Students are not allowed to answer in chorus. Well, I desired to choose these rules because I want to have a harmonious classroomestablishing rapport with unity, peace, and order between me and my future students someday.3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why? Absolutely yes, the students should be involved in making class rules and regulations forthe reason that they should be aware of such things also, in order for the students to be well-oriented and have an idea already whatever sanctions might be given if ever they will violate thesaid rules and implementations inside the classroom and so that the teacher will have no furtherexplanations since it is already agreed between the teacher and the students.
