  • This also fundamentally explains why customers like yourself consider Microsoft when it comes to your productivity solution. There are really three things that we believe separate Microsoft from every other competitor in this space, and why we think you should bet on Microsoft for productivity.1. We’re the only company that is focused on providing the best productivity experience across the PC, the phone, and the browser. Take any competitor in this space—some of them focus on the PC and they have no browser and no phone story. Some of them are completely browser-based. They have no rich client and they have no phone. We believe that your users, and you as users, really do want to use the PC, the phone, and the browser in your daily world. You want to be able to get to your email, no matter what device you’re using. You want to be able to get to your Office documents, no matter what device you’re using. And we’re making that possible with Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Exchange 2010. We want you to be able to work on your documents, and when someone touches it in the browser, they don’t clobber all of the things that someone did in the rich client. We round-trip the Office documents from the PC, to the phone, to the browser, and back, and nobody else does that. Your investment in Office documents is huge; you do not want to lose that. We’ve also designed this so that we do things in the PC that are unique from the phone and the browser. We do things in the browser that are unique from the PC and the phone. And we do things on the phone that are unique from the PC and the browser. We haven’t just taken our long list of capabilities and turned a bunch of stuff off and stuck it in the browser. When you’re in the browser, you get unique value that the browser brings to you. When you’re on your mobile phone, you can take photos; we’ll automatically drop those photos into your OneNote digital notebook, and that gets synced up over the cloud, and people who are using their PCs and their browsers see those photos. We don’t have that capability on the PC. So, PC, phone, and browser—the best experience for each one of them.2. We give you the cloud on your terms. We don’t give you a technology ultimatum where you must move to the cloud to use our technology. We give it to you on your terms. What does that mean? It means that if you’re like Starbucks, you may continue to use our technology in your headquarters operation on-premises. But Starbucks has rolled out 18,000 laptops to all of their cafes in the United States. Those 18,000 laptops are running Windows 7. And those 18,000 laptops are using Exchange Online and SharePoint Online. And it’s integrated in with their headquarters operations. So you can send email to anyone in the company. But the 18,000 new users, who’ve never had our technology before, now are using our cloud, and the rest of corporate headquarters are actually using the traditional on-premises technology. We have other customers like Coca-Cola Enterprises, who’s gone 100 percent to the cloud and they’re not using any servers when it comes to Exchange and SharePoint. And so you can have the cloud on your terms. We believe that is very, very important, and we’re dedicated to helping you think about how to use the cloud in the most effective way.3. Finally, the third reason we believe that you should bet on Microsoft is because we have the broadest vision for what productivity actually is. Productivity is not about desktop documents. It’s not about word processing and spreadsheets. That was twenty years ago. We believe modern productivity combines the things you see at the bottom of this slide in a very seamless experience.Enterprise Search: We believe modern productivity means enterprise search, great people search, finding people inside your company.Collaboration: It means great collaborationECM: It means enterprise content management. Why do you have different publishing systems for your intranet, and your extranet, and your Internet? You want people to use the office tools they’re familiar with and integrate those with your single enterprise content management system.BI: We believe in self-service BI. Excel, SharePoint, and SQL Server. Making it incredibly easy for you to visualize data, democratize data within your organization. UC: And of course we believe modern productivity means unified communications. No other company takes this broad of view of what productivity means.

  • One of the questions that I get asked often from customers, partners and from members in the field is “How do our productivity offers span customer segments”? So this slide is designed to explain our productivity strategy across the various segments. Now it starts on the left-hand side with our consumer or personal experience. And what we’ve done there is taken our Office web applications and made them part of Windows Live and when combined with Office Home & Business, we have created a great productivity experience for that individual and consumer. Now this experience is for personal use and it’s ad funded and available at very low cost and it really helps bring the power of Office to the individual consumer. Now as we move to the right, Office 365 for Small Businesses is a new offer that today, is not in market. And when combined with Office Subscription, we have created a very powerful solution for that small business that needs to get more out of their employees. Office 365 for small business has been specifically designed for organizations that do not have an internal IT department or access to IT through a partner. We’ve priced the offer aggressively and focused on simplicity. And I will go into more detail later in regards to the features and capabilities of Office 365 for Small Businesses. Finally, we will spend the majority of our time on Office 365 for Enterprises. This offer is really for any size of organization… from an advanced small business like a hedge fund or a law firm, to a midmarket, corporate or EPG account. This offer assumes that there is internal IT or IT that is delivered from a partner. This is a fully featured offer with a complete set of communication, collaboration and productivity workloads and we have a range of offers by user type that allows customers to tailor the solution to their individual needs. Lastly, one of the big distinctions between Office 365 for Small Businesses and Office 365 for Enterprise is 24x7 phone support which allows the IT department to connect directly to Microsoft’s support center. Office 365 for Enterprise is a fantastic service for customers who are looking to tune their solution to meet their needs and it comes with the piece of mind that their IT department can contact Microsoft directly and have their support needs met day or night.

  • Building upon our success in the marketplace and based on what we have heard from our customers, with Office 365 we will be introducing a set of new features across all workloads and the platformYou can also refer to slide #23 in the appendix for a detailed view
  • Much like our BPOS offers today with deskless worker, we’ll have a Kiosk worker offer as part of the K Family. This set of family plans is designed for the user that doesn’t have messaging and collaboration today so it’s a low cost way of expanding your footprint in an account and giving customers a common platform for communicating to their workers. There are a couple of key changes in this line up from our current deskless offer. The first and foremost is that we are moving from Outlook Web Access Lite to full OWA. In addition, we’ll add POP support for Exchange so this allows customers to access their mail via a client or device. As we shift to the right-hand side, it’s important to talk about the enterprise IW as well. This really is the high volume family plan. The Plan E family. Designed for your enterprise workers. It includes a larger mailbox at 25 gb, full client connectivity with MAPI, it’s mobility with Active sync, Lync for real-time communication (both instant messaging and conferencing), as well as enterprise features for exchange and Sharepoint. And of course Office Professional Plus. All of these capabilities are part of the Enterprise family. So let’s spend a few minutes diving into the Plan E Family…
  • Presenter ScriptIn considering whether you should take all or a portion of your business productivity infrastructure online, there are four areas of potential cost savings to be aware of: People, processes, finance, and technology.Financial operationsIn these difficult economic times, many customers look at online services as a way to shift from the large, ‘lumpy’ capital expenditures associated with upgrading every few years to a more predictable monthly operating expense. Online services can actually do better than that – they can reduce both capex and opex budgets. And determining the size of those budgets is simpler by virtue of the all-inclusive price. No more wondering whether you’ve captured everything from hardware to software licenses to maintenance fees and support costs. Online services combine all these aspects of the cost into a single bill.PeopleThe simplified administration and offloaded operational maintenance of the services enable you to make the most of your IT people resources – putting the best people on the most important projectsProcessesThe operational cost is easy to overlook, and sometimes difficult to account for. But it can be the largest part of your overall expenditure. Consider what it takes to implement industry best practices for high availability and security, and how much time your IT team spends maintaining the health of your servers.TechnologyIt makes business sense to get the most value you can from new versions of software, as quickly as possible. It not only makes your employees more productive, it maximizes the value you get for your investment. Online services can greatly accelerate this process. And the ability to purchase exactly what you need now and expand later if necessary enables you to ‘right size’ those investments.Over the next few minutes, we’ll look at each of these four areas in more depth and see how Business Productivity Online Suite customers are experiencing these benefits today.
  • All logos on this slide are BPOS or Hybrid BPOS on premise customers. In February 2010, Microsoft commissioned Forrester Consulting to examine the Total Economic Impact (TEI) and potential return on investment (ROI) on the integrated value—or “better together” impact—that enterprises may realize by deploying Microsoft Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Exchange 2010, and Office Communications Server 2007 R2 together. To understand the financial impact of investing in the latest version of these products, Forrester conducted in-depth interviews with 12 Microsoft customers that have started using these products and compiled their results and forward-looking expectations into a composite case study of a life sciences organization with 3,000 information workers.Forrester found that these organizations achieved additional “better together” benefits of integrating the products for end users and for IT administrators. In particular, we found that the composite organization, based on the companies we interviewed collectively, could achieve: Improved Productivity and Collaboration Improvements in workforce productivity, resulting in savings, on average, of 82.33 hours per year or 3.96 percent of time per employee per day for the composite organization. Even if only half of these savings is recaptured in work-related activities, the productivity gains would accrue to approximately $7.05 million in benefits (risk-adjusted, present value [PV] over a three-year period). Productivity gains were due to: 1. Less switching between applications as collaboration features among the different products are more integrated and work better together. 2. Direct and efficient access to team members’ availability through presence that accelerates connecting to the person who can help. 3. Improved ease of finding and accessing topic and skills-based expertise and knowledge through SharePoint MySites, Active Directory, and better search capabilities. 4. Less time searching and managing documents and email due to improved search and better email management features. 5. Faster application use and higher feature use due to the consistency of the Ribbon user interface (UI) across all applications. 6. Improved reporting—incorporating, analyzing, and sharing of data—for business intelligence (BI) users. Improved collaboration process via improvements like the document coauthoring feature for distributed teams, such as sales, clinical trial teams, or professional services, resulting in more than $1.3 million (risk-adjusted, PV) in gains. Cost Savings More than $1.2 million (risk-adjusted, PV) in cost savings from replacing legacy business intelligence (BI) solutions and lessening demand for expensive developer resources due to functionality available in SharePoint 2010 and Excel 2010. Reduced instances of travel resulting in cost savings from more integrated and seamless conferencing collaboration and communications experiences, as well as viewing and editing on different devices with Microsoft Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010. More than $575,000 (risk-adjusted, PV) in conferencing and long-distance telecom costs avoided by utilizing features such as Voice over IP (VoIP), web/video and dial-in audio conferencing. More than $1.3 million (risk-adjusted, PV) in IT administration savings through implementing a standardized environment, with common administration and management tools across SharePoint 2010, Exchange 2010, and Office Communications Server. Reduction in email storage costs of more than $242,000 (risk-adjusted, PV). Reduction in training costs primarily driven by a consistent user interface across applications. The study also identified possible areas of future benefits as customer organizations take advantage of new capabilities in enterprise voice and the flexibility of implementing hosted or on-premises solutions of SharePoint 2010, Exchange 2010, and Communications Server 2007 R2 for select user groups.

  • Use this slide to set the expectations on what moving to the cloud means; share the capabilities of the service and the activities that are required to drive successful implementations.  Office 365 Services Can Not Be Customized.  As a standard service, Microsoft cannot accommodate change requests or customizations that deviate from our Office 365 service descriptions.  MS also will not host customer equipment inside MS data centers.  If customizations are required to solve the business problem, an on-premises or partner-hosted solution might be a better customer fit.  Be Transparent with Customers Regarding Real Deployment Timelines and Migration Costs.  While customers know to expect lower total overall IT costs with cloud services, they need to be better informed about cloud deployment costs.  Office 365 deployments range from straightforward to highly complex, depending upon variables like the complexity of their environment. Do not set deployment timeline expectations with a customer before deep technical due diligence has been conducted.  Contact MPD for timelines, due diligence, and costs.  See more at BPOS Deployment Central. Also, ensure customers understand their overall IT costs will go down while their spend with Microsoft will go up.Office 365 Services Are Not the Sameas On-Premises Solutions.  Our world-class offerings provide customers with the best productivity experience across the PC, phone and browser.  Office 365 services give customers access to the most commonly used business productivity features and capabilities, supported by standardized operational processes.  This model achieves the economies of scale required to pass cost savings through to our service customers.
