2. 2. Unit:15
Alternative treatments 5
Alternative or complementary medicine
3. 3. There are hundreds of alternative treatments many of which derive from traditional Chinese medicine and hold basic concepts in common.
Central is the idea of strengthening qi (pronounced /t∫i:/) - the life force- by manipulating the flow of yin and yang forces.
These concepts are not alternative but part of orthodox systems of belief in some communities. However, they are not mainstream in the West.
4. 4. When alternative treatments have been integrated into conventional health care, they are no longer alternative but complementary.
The key to alternative healing may be to the degree of personal attention, interest and time which healers give their clients, and this may be what conventional medicine is missing.
5. 5.

There is plenty of evidence that acupuncture relieves pain and nauseaAnd may work well for musculoskeltal conditions

Herbal medicine can also work for a wide range of illnesses.
13. 13. homeopathy
attempts to treat patients with heavily diluted preparations which are claimed to cause effects similar to the symptoms presented
It still raises many doubts because there is no viable explanation why a solution of medicine, so weak as to be effectively non-existent, could possibly work
14. 14. Recent studies sugget That homeopathy’s success can be attributed to the
placebo effect=> the patient’s condition improves simply because they believe they are taking medication, even when in fact they are not. (EVEN MENTALY BELIVE ME IT WORKed for me
15. 15. Aromatherapy:
is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials, known as essential oils, and other aromatic compounds
