  2. 2. <ul><li>Fashion CAD (Computer Aided Software) is a program used to make apparel patterns. </li></ul><ul><li>CAD is a program containing drawing and measuring tools to do the same things you would do on paper and pencil. </li></ul>What is CAD?
  3. 3. <ul><li>Designers use CAD to make mass apparel production more time efficient. </li></ul><ul><li>Using these programs cuts back hours, making it quicker to take a flat pattern and create an actual silhouette. </li></ul><ul><li>These programs are used to measure or multiply apparel patterns in seconds. </li></ul>Why use it?
  4. 4. Which programs are most popular in the Fashion Industry? <ul><li>- Both of these programs offer focus on design 3d, prototyping, pattern making, size grading, nesting of the pattern pieces to minimize use of materials, and use of textile cutting machines. </li></ul>&
  5. 5. <ul><li>Lectra has been involved in the fashion world for over thirty years. </li></ul><ul><li>The company was created by Jean and Bernard Etcheparre in 1973. Their first pattern-making and grading system was sold in 1976. </li></ul><ul><li>Lectra is the world leader in CAD for apparel industry. </li></ul><ul><li>Clients include: Benetton, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Fruit of the Loom, Eddie Bauer, and Gucci. </li></ul>Lectra

In 1980 they started their machines used for mass apparel production. </li></ul><ul><li>Originally known for its cutter textile machines. </li></ul><ul><li>This is the program used at The Art Institute of New York City. </li></ul><ul><li>Clients include: GAP, Liz Claiborne, Levis, Carters, Sears, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Osh Kosh </li></ul>Gerber Technology

  9. 9. … <ul><li>If you are trying to recreate a pattern or change one, you will need a digitizer or a digital camera. </li></ul><ul><li>-With the digitizer you can trace the pattern and have it show up on the software. </li></ul><ul><li>-Using the digital camera to take a picture, you can crop it on the CAD software. </li></ul><ul><li>Plotters are also known as printers. They print the pattern made on the software onto the Plotter Paper. </li></ul><ul><li>The Cutters are used to cut the plotter paper perfectly into the patterns. </li></ul><ul><li>The silhouette drafting table is the space where you can work while trying to create your garment. </li></ul>Pattern Making Hardware
