  • What History Interests Me: The Red Scare Brandon Engberg
  • Background
    • The Red Scare was the second of its kind and occurred in the period directly after World War II from 1947-57.
    • It was the fear of the spread of Communism and Communist aggression against the US.
    • As a result of this fear a new practice known as McCarthyism came into play.
    • McCarthyism was basically the the accusation of treason/communism without proof during the second Red Scare.
  • Information
    • As a result of the McCarthyism ideals many people began to accuse neighbors of being Soviet Spies.
    • One of the most notable cases is that of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg.
    • This was a husband and wife who were convicted of espionage and given the death penalty in 1953
