The Philadelphia Flyers have been a hard-hitting, brawling, and enforcing team for 40 years. The Flyers lead the all-time NHL suspension list with almost 100. Reasons range from attacking opponents in the hallway before a game, to getting in bench-clearing brawls, to punching referees. In a game with the Ottawa Senators in 2004, the Flyers got the most penalty minutes in a game with well over 200.
The Flyers won the Stanley Cup (hockey championship) twice in the 1970’s and came close this past year as they were only a few games away from reaching this coveted trophy.
Where it all started
The Flyers began as one of 3 new teams in 1968, part of the NHL expansion. Since then, they have had many famous players such as Jeremy Roenick, Dave Brown, Ron Hextall, and Bobby Clarke.
