Textual Analysis of Live Forever

  1. 1. Oasis – Live Forever Textual AnalysisThe live forever music video by Oasis is one that has influenced ourown music video, partly because it of the Britpop genre but inparticular through the editing of the colours within the video. The sound of this video is obviously important, as the song is whatthe video is an advertisement for. The song in the Live Forever videohas no meaning within the video as it does not follow any narrativebut Is simply a mixture of live performance and apparently randomscenes. This does not influence our video as we are aiming to mix liveperformance with different narrative scenes in an attempt to reflectthe lyrics. The camera work in this video is relatively standard for a musicvideo, consisting of many mid shots of the band members and closeups for the lip syncing that is evident throughout the video. This useof close ups of the band playing their instruments is something weneed to pay close attention to as we will be aiming to include manyclose ups of the band playing as will be using lip syncing. The mise en scene is another thing that is relatively inconsequentialto the actual song. It is set in a garden and what appears to be a rundown estate, both these things do not really have anything to do withthe lyrics of the song. The editing of this video is the key thing that we can take to use forown video. The main thing we can look to take is the changing ofcolours throughout the video, we have planned to use this particularediting tool and have completed a workshop on this. The changing ofcolours is a good way to keep the audience focused on the video bymaking it brighter and with the song being upbeat it links in withsong itself.
