Analysis of professional contents pages
Magazine title is at the top of the page and also the word contents to tell the reader that it’s the contents page. The contents is written in columns, usually two or four columns which makes it easy to read for the reader. The headline follows the page number this is in a larger font or highlighted or in a different font to the other text. This makes it stand out from the rest and draws the reader in. There are smaller images around the main image which relate to other articles in the magazine. They have a small caption telling the reader a little more about the article. The image allows the reader to visualise the article because usually it is of a singer who the article is about.
Mojo magazine is different to other magazines because the layout of the contents page doesn’t always follow the codes and conventions of music magazine contents pages. Here there is one main image covering the contents page with the writing written over the top, there are no smaller images which there usually is. The image uses direct address and although it is not important on the contents page it draws more readers in because when the open the magazine the first thing they see is the contents page. Because the image uses direct address it gains the reader or buyers attention making them buy the magazine.
There is one main image that takes up most of the contents page, this image relates to the main feature article. Some contents pages use quotes from the magazine which is shown on the example to the left of Q magazine. The page number is in the bottom left corner with the title of the magazine this is so the reader knows what magazine they’re reading no matter what page they are on.
The color scheme is simple, here the colors red, black and white are used that’s only three colors which give sthe magazine a modern look which is what the readers want. Contents are split up in regulars and feature articles. These are what is in the magazine every month and what is only going to be in that issue for example an exclusive interview which will only appear in that magazine in that issue draws in readers because its exclusive meaning they cannot get it anywhere else. Also it could be an article about a music artist that they like. The words contents usually fill the whole top of the page or the word is in the top left corner. The contact information is also on the contents page so that readers are able to contact the magazine for any reason.
