Slavery <ul><li>Slaves were brought mainly from Africa or Brazil </li></ul><ul><li>Slaves had to listen to their slave owners and not to be able to marry the free which are those who are not slaves </li></ul><ul><li>Any person that is shipped in and not a Christian will be a slave. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Slavery in relation to the novel <ul><li>Both use racial discrimination against the blacks. </li></ul><ul><li>In the novel the blacks were accused for nothing. </li></ul><ul><li>In reality the blacks had to listen to all the orders of the whites and were treated cruelly. </li></ul>

The Civil War <ul><li>The Southern States: Texas, Missouri, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. </li></ul><ul><li>President Abraham Lincoln declared war on the Southern States. </li></ul><ul><li>The war was fought for the freedom of the slaves where the Northern States abolished slavery and the Southern States still wanted control over the slaves. </li></ul>
  6. 6. The Civil War <ul><li>The Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865. </li></ul><ul><li>The Northern States won the War and gained the freedom of the slaves. </li></ul>

Jim Crow Laws <ul><li>A song’s name </li></ul><ul><li>To state the local laws in America during the period of 1876 till 1965 </li></ul><ul><li>Separated the blacks and the whites </li></ul><ul><li>Gave whites an advantage among the public in social, education and etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Blacks were treated unfairly and were very unhappy </li></ul>

The Civil Rights Movement <ul><li>Started in 1950 </li></ul><ul><li>Political movement of equality before the law, improves legal rights </li></ul><ul><li>Chicano Movement </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Sought political empowerment and social inclusion for Mexicans </li></ul></ul><ul><li>American-Indian Movement </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Violent protest gatherings, 2 men died as a result </li></ul></ul>
