In this presentation we will look at word of mouth marketing , the resources required, along with the action plan, tips, and alternative considerations in running your campaign.
Introduction to word of mouth marketing Word of mouth marketing includes starting rumors or gossip, and is based on the idea of creating a popular phenomenon, or craze. The idea is to start a movement or viral effect by getting people interested merely by the power of suggestion. It is about creating a buzz around a certain product, service, or company, through message boards, blogs, chats, text messaging, and instant messengers.
Cost and timeframe The costs can be low for this form of marketing, but if you employ an advertising agency to design and manage the campaign, the costs could be great. Word of mouth marketing can take a long time to become effective, and creating a viral phenomenon can take months if not years to really take off.
Action plan Time should be spent in social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and in the blogging world to see what people are talking about and then you can decide how to target them. You can also try getting influential people to use or talk about the product. Other way to create interest by creating limited edition models or otherwise making the product or service appear as something exclusive, thereby creating curiosity.
Tips Creating a short and highly interesting video clip and then uploading it to YouTube and other internet video sites is one way to create a viral effect. In order for customers to feel involved, you must offer amazing customer service, product education, and have an open door policy. Remember, give customers a way to leave feedback and testimonials about the product so that they can share their experiences with others.
Alternative considerations Since a Word of mouth campaign is difficult to pull off, combining this method with other internet and traditional campaigns will assure that you are not solely waiting on a trend to start based on customer responses to your product.
