Alternative to Yahoo Site Explorer Alternative to Yahoo Site Explorer Presentation Transcript

    • Alternative to Yahoo! Site Explorer
    • When you are performing SEO research whether on your own site, else a competitor’s website, you need to assess the amount of backlinks for a site, plus the anchor text.
    • Within the website SEO community Yahoo!
    • Site Explorer was extremely popular, but unfortunately that has now been shutdown.
    • There is no point running a search engine optimisation campaign without gathering this data and analysing, as your efforts could be wasted or slightly off the mark.
    • So in this article we will look at two alternatives to Yahoo! Site Explorer.
    • Ahrefs
    • This a powerful back link and SERPs services that provides a rich amount of data.
    • It is impressive the way they display the removal of links, as well as new additions, adding an extra dimension into the true effectiveness of link campaigns.
    • You should also be aware that Ahrefs includes all links found on a domain, when providing a total number of links.
    • So for instance if you are active on a forum, it will list all links, whereas some site explorers will only count one link per domain, regardless of the amount of links on that domain.
    • For example Ahrefs could report 2321 links, whereas another might mention 232 and both would be correct, but the manner of reporting would be different.
    • link analysis
    • Ahrefs makes it easy to quickly assess the overview results, but then enables you to drill down to look at the data.
    • So for instance you not only can see who has linked to you, but the text used within the link.
    • It is worth revisiting Ahrefs once a month during an ongoing SEO campaign.
    • Open Site Explorer
    • Another powerful site explorer, which I must admit I don’t like as much as Ahrefs, but it is worth using in addition to Ahrefs. They won’t count all links on a domain, as Ahrefs will and their database update times will vary.
    • So when you are comparing the data, you should take both these differences into account.
    • One feature that I love about Open Site Explorer is that they provide a ‘domain authority’ score, which also helps you engage the effectiveness of your campaign, especially compared to your competitors.
    • So perhaps a new target could be to raise your domain authority, which would mean you would need to improve your SEO strategy.
    • Again like Ahrefs you can drill down and also you can compare websites, which is a nice feature.
    • If I had to choose between Open Site Explorer and Ahrefs, as mentioned Ahrefs would be my choice.
    • Conclusion
    • With any site explorer service you have to understand that they will operate differently, whether it is how regular they update their databases, how they present the data, else another difference.
    • Together you should be able to see how your SEO campaigns are progressing, especially if you start tracking keyword placement within search engines, using a service such as SeScout.
    • When though you can have an excellent external link campaign, but if your on-site content isn’t relevant and or high quality, coupled with not having a good internal SEO strategy, then you will not get the desired results.
