Research So that I knew who my target audience were and every detail about them I put together a questionnaire and sent it out to the kinds of people I thought would read my magazine. I used this to help create my reader profile.
My target audience So that I could attract my audience I thought carefully about the house colours, features and mode of address. The house colours I ended up using were red, black and white as these are simple, plain colours. Also, red has the connotation of danger which my target audience would find appealing as they like loud, heavy music. My target audience want to be close with the band/artists so I include a lot of personal interviews with exclusives and backstage features. Also, there’s a whole section for the fans so that they can interact with the magazine too and feel close to the magazine as well as the artist. I’ve used a casual mode of address to also make it more personal. I use slang words and a lot of jokes to create this casual atmosphere.
Unique selling point I feel that my unique selling point is the high quality appearance of the magazine and the simple layout. Another magazine which is targeted at the same audience as The Squeeze is Kerrang! You will find that they have a very cluttered layout with average imagery and normal prints where as The Squeeze aims to provide high quality photography and prints at an affordable price.
