    • Compressed Air has long been used for soil excavation.
    • Air excavation “tools” traditionally homemade and inherently unsafe.
    • Typically fabricated from a ball valve and random length of iron pipe.

  • 12. How Does AIR-SPADE Work?
    • Soil is unconsolidated assemblage of solid particles including clay, sand, rock, and organic matter.
    • Voids between particles occupied by air and/or water.
    • Compressed Air directed at close range enters voids and expands, fracturing soil instantaneously.
    • Non-porous materials, such as metal, plastic, cables, or tree roots are unaffected.

    • AIR-SPADE patented supersonic nozzle turns Compressed Air into a high-speed, laser-like jet.

    • Root collar excavation is an essential part of tree health care and is used for:
    • Disease and/or pest inspection.
    • Application of treatments for diseases such as Oak Wilt.

    • Radial trenching and subsequent soil replacement is an excellent method to enhance root structure.

    • The technology is based on the same supersonic design as the Air-Spade nozzle.
    • The Pass-Thru Vac operates off of the same air compressor as the Air-Spade.
    • Different sized units will be available with variable hose sizes. The larger the hose size, the larger the air compressor requirement.

    • The Vac is lightweight and highly portable.
    • The Vac is designed to move soil from the excavation site to a point behind the operator. Up to 25’ of hose can be used.
    • The soil can be put onto a tarpaulin, into a barrel, on the back of a pickup truck, or just left on the ground.
    • The Vac can handle 2 to 3 cubic feet per minute.
