Make Your Resume Searchable **IMPORTANT TOOL** Create a Saved Job Search To Help with Job Announcements <ul><li>Use the “Search Jobs” tab in the top left corner of the </li></ul><ul><li>main page. </li></ul><ul><li>Narrow down your search by using a keyword [enter announcement number] or location [enter city, state]. </li></ul><ul><li>Hint: The search will look for exact matches: the more specific your search parameter, the more likely the search will return the announcements that match your job desire. </li></ul><ul><li>You can refine or narrow your search by Agency, Posting Date, etc… or </li></ul><ul><li>Review your search results and click on the “Job Title” to view the Job Announcement. </li></ul>Searching For Jobs **IMPORTANT TIPS** <ul><li>Log onto USAJOBS.gov and create your account as soon as possible and prior to the job announcement opening. </li></ul><ul><li>Print announcement and questionnaire prior to applying for the position. This will provide you with an opportunity to update your resume to support your answers. </li></ul><ul><li>Follow announcement directions carefully. </li></ul><ul><li>Review electronic monitors for vacancy </li></ul><ul><li>announcements. </li></ul><ul><li>YOUR SF-50 MUST BE ATTACHED TO ALL </li></ul><ul><li>APPLICATION PACKAGES. </li></ul>Applicants can make their resume “searchable”. This allows recruiters to find your resume during searches. Note: Uploaded resumes cannot be searched. Points of Contact A saved search will automatically search for jobs based on your search criteria, and then email you when there are new jobs entered that meet your specifications.   Note:  When asked to create a name for the saved search, you may enter a name of your choice that is related to the job, such as:  Administrative, Program Analyst, Management Analyst. You can also create a saved search by running a job search and selecting the “Save this Search and email me jobs” link at the top of the job search results page.   2. 2. <ul><li>Job Announcement </li></ul><ul><li>Be sure to read the “How to Apply” section. </li></ul><ul><li>Applying for a Vacancy </li></ul><ul><li>Click on “Apply Online”. </li></ul><ul><li>Click on the resume you want to use (if you have more than one – you may have up to 5 resumes on file). </li></ul><ul><li>Check the box that you have previewed your resume. </li></ul><ul><li>Check the box that you certify your application. </li></ul><ul><li>Click on “Apply for this position now!” </li></ul><ul><li>Check box on how you heard about the job announcement. </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Continue with Application”. You will be brought to USA Staffing Application Manager. </li></ul><ul><li>Click on “Continue” at the welcome screen. </li></ul><ul><li>If you do not already have an account, click on “Create an Account” and follow the instructions to create one. </li></ul><ul><li>Enter your SSN, First Name, Middle Initial and Last Name, Click on “Next”. </li></ul><ul><li>Verify or Enter your Address, Phone number, email address and Citizenship Status, Click on “Next”. </li></ul><ul><li>Complete Lowest Grade you will accept, Veteran’s preference, Dates of Active Duty, Occupational Specialties and Geographic location, Click “Next”. </li></ul><ul><li>Enter Employment Availability (FT, PT, Travel) </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Next”. </li></ul><ul><li>View the “Occupational Questionnaire”. </li></ul><ul><li>Answer the Yes/No and Multiple Choice questions. </li></ul><ul><li>Work experience descriptions should support your answers, Click “Next”. </li></ul>How To Apply For Announced Vacancies Using USAJOBS Create/Upload a Resume Uploading Documents Using Application Manager Application Manager Job Announcement Applying For A Vacancy Assessment Questionnaire <ul><li>To be considered for an announced vacancy, submit your resume by MIDNIGHT EST (Eastern Standard Time) of the closing date indicated in the announcement. Resumes must be submitted by going onto www.usajobs.gov </li></ul><ul><li>Once you have accessed www.usajobs.gov , </li></ul><ul><li>If you do not have an account , click on “ Create an Account ”. You will need: </li></ul><ul><li>a. Username - between 4 and 20 characters and; </li></ul><ul><li>b. Password - between 8 and 20 characters maximum: </li></ul><ul><li>one upper case letter; one lower case letter; </li></ul><ul><li>one number; one symbol (! @ # $*) </li></ul><ul><li>If you have an account , click on “ Sign In” with your User Name OR email address AND password to access your account. </li></ul><ul><li>To UPLOAD an existing resume: </li></ul><ul><li>Click Resumes </li></ul><ul><li>Upload new resume </li></ul><ul><li>Enter Resume Title </li></ul><ul><li>Click Browse and select the resume you would like to upload </li></ul><ul><li>Click upload </li></ul><ul><li>To CREATE a resume: </li></ul><ul><li>Click Resumes </li></ul><ul><li>Click Build New Resume </li></ul><ul><li>Enter Resume Title (only if you have an existing resume on file) </li></ul><ul><li>Complete all 4 sections of the Resume Builder and Save. </li></ul><ul><li>From your USAJOBS “My Account” screen, click “Saved Documents”. </li></ul><ul><li>Select the type of document you are uploading from the dropdown menu (e.g., SF-50, Transcripts, DD-214(copy 4), etc.). </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Browse” to locate the file and click “Open” to attach it. </li></ul><ul><li>Enter a name for the document. </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Upload”. </li></ul>TIPS When Creating/Updating Your Resume <ul><li>Save your resume often to ensure you do not lose information. </li></ul><ul><li>Include all your experiences, knowledge and skills, particularly those relating to the vacancy you are applying for that are described in the vacancy announcement. </li></ul>TIPS When Creating/Updating Your Resume (Cont’d) <ul><li>Spell out any acronym at least once (e.g. Task Group Instruction (TGI); Non-Destructive Test (NDT), etc.) </li></ul><ul><li>Complete each section of the resume in detail. </li></ul><ul><li>Under the Job Related Training section include all certificates, degrees, training, and /or qualifications you received, particularly those that pertain to the vacancy. </li></ul><ul><li>Under the Additional Information section, list all awards and honorary recognition received. List your performance rating received on your last performance appraisal. Include any noteworthy accomplishments your supervisor wrote on your appraisal. </li></ul>TIPS for Uploading Documents <ul><li>Review the Announcement for “How to Apply” section for required documents. </li></ul><ul><li>Select Document (resume, transcript, SF-50, etc.) from </li></ul><ul><li>the drop down menu. </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Browse” to locate the file and click “Open” to attach it. </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Open” to attach it. </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Upload”. </li></ul><ul><li>Review table for the status of documents: * Await retrieval from USAJOBS (usually 6-8 hours after clicking “Submit my Answers” as described below). </li></ul><ul><li> - Received-Pending Virus Scan (usually completed within the hour). </li></ul><ul><li> - Processed (successfully received and attached). </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Next”. </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Submit My Answers”. </li></ul><ul><li>You will see a Confirmation Message and you will received a confirmation by email. </li></ul><ul><li>* It is highly recommended you save this information. </li></ul><ul><li>Log out and close your browser. </li></ul>
