Inspired by its predecessors; The Great Exhibition of 1851 and The Festival of Britain
1951, The Great Exhibition 2012 will celebrate the unique qualities of Britain. From
previe wing the collections of Britain's greatest fashion designers, to telling the stories
behind Britain’s towns and cities, to creating the largest record produced in the world
to sho wcasing British produce from across its regions, The Great Exhibition 2012 will
be an experience of a lifetime, one that will re-ignite pride in Britain and create a vision
of what the nation can achieve in the future. Spreading over 250 acres the greatest
British clubs, societies, businesses and communities will have the opportunity to
display their talents.

founding partners of the exhibition. The competition has been created to encourage
individuals and businesses to get online in the lead up to The Great Exhibition. Every
month between no w and the opening on 1st June 2012 its organisers will award a
worthy applicant with the infrastructure (laptop, soft ware and hosting services) they
need to be successful online, so that 25 new w eb based businesses or community
organisations will be operating in the UK by the time the gates open. Each month the
competition organisers will also a ward free hosting services to another 20 other
individuals or organisations with great ideas, but limited resources to enable those
ideas to become reality, bringing another 500 sites online.
NEW FRONTIERS prize includes support to help build our initiative's online presence
including a premium-hosting package free for 36 months, free Microsoft Exchange
email, a Dell laptop and a free domain name.
The Great Exhibition 2012 will demonstrate the distinctive depth and diversity of
Britain, current successes will be intert wined with future visions; who and what
represents Britain now alongside what the nation will look like a decade from now.
Visitors will take a journey through all the regions of the British Isles, from John
O’Groats to Lands End, pausing to revie w and rediscover Britain’s unique regional
identities and understand what holds each of its communities together. The exhibition
will take visitors on a journey through all aspects of British life, displayed in nine main
arenas built in the stunning grounds of Stoneleigh Park in the heart of the British
countryside. From major multi-national corporations, through to independent traders
and community projects this will display a unique expression of Britain today and the
Britain of the future.

NOTES TO EDITORS
NEW FRONTIERS has embarked on a journey to stimulate truly sustainable design
solutions fit for the social and environmental challenges of the 21st Century. It will
capture, catalyse and create ideas and innovation, from architecture to urban design
to materials engineering to product design.
The brainchild of futurologist and design scientist Melissa Sterry and developed in
partnership with environmental scientist Matt Prescott, NEW FRONTIERS is working
with leading universities, professional institutions, NGOs, government agencies and
pioneering global brands to embed a strong understanding of sustainability; form new
collaborations; and promote the best innovation for this new and fast-moving sector.
Designed to convert ideas into action, NEW FRONTIERS will focus on
interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge sharing, capacity building and public
discourse. Its programme comprises seminars at venues around Manchester,
scholarships, a participative digital platform and other planned elements, culminating
in a prestigious biennial national prize.
