Background• The Global Exploration Strategy: The Framework for The Global Coordination was published in May 2007 by 14 space Exploration Strategy agencies The Framework for Coordination - Discusses globally coordinated human and robotic exploration of destinations reachable by humans in the next decades May 2007 o Moon o Near Earth Asteroids o Mars - By coordinating their efforts, agencies can maximize delivery of benefits to society - Not a proposal for a single global program, but recognizes that more can be accomplished through coordination and cooperation 2
ISECG Terms of Reference• Work collectively in a non-binding, consensus-driven manner toward advancing the Global Exploration Strategy - Provide a forum for discussion of interests, objectives and plans - Provide a forum for development of conceptual products - Enable the multilateral or bilateral partnerships necessary to accomplish complex exploration missions - Promote interest and engagement in space exploration among citizens and society• ISECG operating principles - Open and inclusive, flexible and evolutionary, effective, mutual interest• ISECG chairmanship rotates approximately once per year 3
ISECG Products ISECG Reference Architecture• To date, ISECG has released two technical products for Human Lunar Exploration informing near-term decision making within participating agencies• Both products reflect a shared interest to collaboratively plan future human exploration in an open and inclusive manner Released in July 2010 - The ISECG Reference Architecture for Human Lunar Exploration o The first multilaterally developed human space exploration architecture - The Global Exploration Roadmap o A tool to facilitate coordination of agency long-term planning and near-term preparatory activities First iteration released in September 2011 4
