  • Introduce myself and Short Bio.
  • Just some fun stuff to share. I want to begin by saying that we are all trapped within a system that promotes life-long learning and long term planning, but can’t function that way due to a budgetary process that suppresses anything past next year. Think about it. We are asking teenagers to decide what they want to do everyday for the next 50 years, but we can’t tell them that Marketing or Entrepreneurship will run next year. Talk about a dichotomy of theory and practice. Because of the stifling nature of this environment, in many cases we can’t see the forest through the trees”. I have a short video to prove my claim.
  • Assure them we are not all equal.
  • Explain the presentation process.
  • Let me take a few minutes to tell you about us to give you a point of reference. We may be similar in some ways and different in others. It is difficult to compare without a point of reference.
  • Job Retention (4 Business Teachers) Lower Class Sizes and Priority Scheduling Funding Approval of Field Trips Approval of Professional Development Allow some Autonomy
  • Publicity (Local Newspapers, RICPA Newsletter, CBS Viewer Letter, etc.) Annual Report to School Committee Show Data Student Achievement is High Meet Expectations and Standards (Align with School and State Graduation Requirements) Go The Extra Mile (Never Say No) College Articulation Agreements 100% Post-Secondary Enrollment Community Outreach Invitation to All Meetings and Events
  • Read the Slide
  • Embed those roots like a tree. The more you prove it is working, the harder it is for them to find a reason.
  • Explain the project. Note the Newspaper.
  • Read the inset.
  • I want you to know why before I continue. Read the slide.
  • This is not foolproof. You are only reducing the odds by “embedding those roots”.
  • Read the Slide
  • Again… I have broken the presentation into several pieces. Student Achievement – Class Enrollments – Community Outreach – Internships – Membership Benefits Faculty Effort – Student Recruitment – Promotion and Fundraising – Advisory Board – College Connection (Articulation) Remember this is just my experience. Yours may be different.
  • YOU MUST PUT THE EFFORT FORWARD. If everyone won’t get on board, then get a few. Remember this affects the entire department.
  • Read the Slide.
  • Politically Correct.
  • Twofold Achievement - What matters to admins. for accountability and accreditation purposes
  • Important to be competitive.
  • Important for students, employers, and society.
  • WE promote rigor, relevance, and relationships through …
  • Sequencing, prerequisites, and maintaining low caps is necessary to reduce “dumping” factor and keep quality of courses high.
  • Added Value
  • More Added Value
  • Explain.
  • Yet More Added Value
  • And Again
  • The Long Term Rewards
  • Sell – Sell – Sell. Be Visible.
  • My opinion. This is secondary.
