Answer or Teaching or Learning Techniques for Seminar on Basic Grammar
Stage-1:
Verb, subject and object
1. Mashrafi Plays in Bangladesh.
Ans: Mashrafi is a Noun. Bangladesh also a Noun as they both are Names. Those who
complete the action of the verb, they are always subject. NB: Only Noun can act for Subject
and Object. Pronoun they are only replacement of noun. In this sentence Mashrafi has
completed the action of playing. So, Mashrafi is the Subject.
2. Bush has been called in Iraq.
Traditionally it is a passive sentence though I call it Object based sentence. How? Notice
that the action for calling, who has done the action Bush or Iraq, Answer is NONE. Who is
the subject here? Definitely somebody else from Iraq.
How do you understand this as a passive sentence?
Always remember “To Be”: Am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been
To Be +V3 = always Passive or Object based.
Voice
I write with pen.
Pen is written with me.
I mentioned this example for making your traditional rules confused. Because traditionally you
have learnt.
Just remember
1. It is Done ( Iha kora hoi).
It means the task has been done in the sentence. I.E. Rakib Eats Rice. What is doing here,
Rice is Eaten.
NB:
1. IT = noun
2. Is = To Be
3. Done= v3
I eat rice = active
1. Rice is eaten by me
2. Rice was eaten by me
3. Rice will be eaten by me
4. Rice has been eaten by me
5. Rice had been eaten by me
6. Rice Will have been eaten by me
There is no future forms of verbs, so we are to make them future by adding shall/will. Look I just
changed the to be Verbs: and it is possible to make you clear about all these things without
verbal lecture.
Stage-2: noun, adjective and adverb
1. Honest is the best policy.
2. Asraful lives in Dhaka.
3. Asraful lives in Dhaka city.
All the above sentences are correct as you know but the only argument is A names can be an
Adjective as you can see in the sentence three.
i.e. Who gives extra information about noun that is adjective.
Let me make you clear giving example
Rahim is a Good boy
Bad
Tall
Short stc.
Asraful lives in Dhaka City
Chittagong
Khulna
Here city is being modified with the Naming words so they are adjectives here.

7. Ashwariya is a beautiful dancer. (Adjective)
8. Flowers beautify a Garden. (Verb)
9. Ashwariya danced beautifully on the stage. (Adverb)
Stage -3: Gerund and Participle
To remember these things
V+ing= Noun= Gerund
V+ing=Adjective, Adverb= Participle
Just Follow, There in “N” in the Word “Gerund”=N for Noun
There is “A” in the word “Participle” = Participle= A for Adj, Adv
1. I like dancing. (Gerund)
2. Singing is my hobby. (Gerund)
3. I saw a running boy. (Participle)
4. A fiying bird may give you something unpleasent.

1971 a year of tragedy for Babu and his family lost five members fought for the motherland
