The Most Effective Reward and Recognition Programs Have Five Elements …

The Most Effective Reward and Recognition Programs Have Five Elements

1. Achievable: Set achievable standards. If it can’t be accomplished, it becomes a de- motivator.

2. Objective: Tell employees exactly what it takes to achieve a reward or recognition.

3. Sensible: Include rewards that are logical motivators. If you are in your busy season, don’t award additional time off if your schedule can’t tolerate it for another six months.

4. Timely: Waiting too long to deliver a reward or recognition will lessen the impact.

5. Useful: If possible, measure and reward something that helps to produce useful business results.

  • 10. 1010 David Foster Foundation Gala Luxury and star power: creating an evening of magic and exclusivity. All the ingredients for a truly magical evening were in place: spectacular array of performers, prestigious and intimate location, and the personal, exclusive service Heller is renowned for. The David Foster Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants. In addition to helping families with their non-medical expenses, the Foundation strives to increase organ donor registration through public awareness campaigns in Canada and the United States. On Friday night, Heller converted an empty room in the Fallsview Casino to host David Foster and Friends with 100 VIP Guests for an exclusive performance by Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble, Paul Anka, Kathryn McPhee, BabyFace and Jamiah Simone Nash. For the big gala on Saturday night, Heller transformed the Fallsview Ballroom into a Tuscan village in honour of special guest, Andrea Bocelli, who performed in the Avalon Ballroom for over 1500 guests followed by an incredible meal catered by Celebrity Chef Mark McEwan. This was truly an unforgettable occasion, and Heller went beyond the ordinary. This two day event was truly spectacular and raised over $3,000,000. • 12. 12 9th Annual Fight for Independence Charity Boxing Event Fight for Independence (FFI) was created by Bay Street traders James Beattie, Jackie Walker and Tom Gajer with funds being raised for the Urgent Care Unit at SickKids and Nazareth House. Since its inception in 2004, Fight for Independence has raised over $1.5 million for its charities. Heller was hired to transform the event and bring it to a higher level, this was accomplished by taking guests back to a time when boxing was the premier sport in the world – the roaring 20’s. Transformed into a tasteful and exclusive speakeasy, FFI entertained over 900 guests with beautiful flappers, stilt walkers and complimentary grub and “giggle juice” by Chiado and Salt, Steam Whistle Pilsner, Forty Creek Whisky, Iceberg Vodka and much more. The event was hosted by CP24’s Gurdeep Ahluwalia with a guest appearance by Canadian heavyweight boxing legend George Chuvalo (top right). The result, another seamlessly executed event by the Heller team. The participants were split into groups of 10 and were given the task to build a bike for 25 girls and boys from the local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter. Watching the children race into the ballroom to receive their bikes brought tears of joy to the audience. Another successful conference! • 14. 14 Grand Gru Culinary Wine Festival ~ 2003-2006 It is one of the most spectacular charity festivals and its success demands an extraordinary level of expertise and involvement. Heller created the template and executed flawlessly. With 25 top chefs and vintners in 25 private homes, Grand Cru is an event where anything could go wrong. It never does. This festival is an example of Heller’s dedication to detail, hard work and professional involvement. Featuring names such as Daniel Bouloud, Mark McEwan, Hundred Acre, Chateau Margaux, and Chateau Latour mean expectations run high and we exceeded them, each and every time. The festival supports research at the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation. For three years, Heller has increased both awareness and funding for the event. • 16. 16 Vinefera Awards & Gala Dinner ~ 2000 – 2009 Heller Productions created the idea for this event over a decade ago. The Bay Street crowd attending this annual event is accustomed to simply the best. They are not an easy audience to impress. Yet, year after year, we did just that. Vinifera is the primary fundraising event for Women in Capital Markets. In addition to supporting WCM initiatives, a portion of the net revenue (20%) is given to the Heather L. Main Memorial Scholarship Fund to support their efforts. It is seen as a valuable social and networking opportunity for Toronto’s financial and investment community and has gained notable media coverage for the association in past years. The live auction at Vinifera always draws lots of excitement as several extraordinary experiences were auctioned off. Experiences included private villas, culinary experiences with Celebrity Chefs, Golf in private clubs around the world, and an incredible wine auction. We managed everything including tickets sales, sponsorship recognition, food and beverage sponsors, content for all marketing materials, signage and programs, website content, display of live and silent auction items, floor plans, volunteers and staffing. Every detail was taken care of with the utmost attention and personal touch Heller is known for. Both hotel teams and Heller Productions Inc. worked tirelessly to create an unforgettable two days. With a focus on customer service and sales effectiveness they conducted main sessions and over a dozen breakouts during the day, followed by an “Oscar” themed awards dinner – complete with red carpet and customized “Oscar Walk-up” music. Numerous awards were handed out throughout the evening (melding perfectly with the entertainment) as recognition for outstanding achievement during the year. Remarkable aerobic entertainers along side aerialists on ropes and silks, hoop artists and a hand-balancing duo left the crowd speechless, while the musical stylings of local violinist Grenville Pinto filled the air. The guests spent their evening dining at the newest lounge at Fallsview Casino Resort, R5. With a stunning fire-and-water décor designed to highlight its breathtaking view of the Falls, and delectable sweet delights throughout, R5 was a perfect backdrop to end the day.
