  8. 8. This tends to work better thansimply starting with the positivething you want to happen, alongthe lines of Couéism, as yourunconscious mind has atendency to kick in with someresponses to your positivestatement with something alongthe lines of “Oh no you won’tbecause you’ll X, Y and Z.”

  10. 10. So for our person with aphobia of dogs (cynophobia),the full affirmation would be “Iam terrified of dogs but I canaccept myself.”
  11. 11. Now you are almost ready tobegin the tapping sequence.
  12. 12. Before you begin, think aboutwhere you are on theemotional scale in regard toyour problem, where 0 iscomplete calm, joy andpeace, and 10 is totalhysterical panic.
  13. 13. Here, you might need to visitthe past in your memory orelse during regression aspart of hypnotherapy.
  14. 14. The aim is to come down thescale and get closer to zero.
  15. 15. The first taps will be on thekarate chop point – thefleshy part of the curve onthe edge of your hand abouthalfway between the knuckleof your little finger and yourwrist.
  16. 16. Tap seven times. Then moveonto the other points in thefollowing sequence:
  17. 17. 1. On the thick end of theeyebrow where it meets thebridge of the nose;
  18. 18. 2. On the thin end of theeyebrow just before thetemple, using the oppositeeyebrow from the one youtouched in Step 1;
  19. 19. 3. Under the eye – imagineyou’re trying to smooth awaydark circles caused by lack ofsleep;
  20. 20. 4. Under your nose in thelittle hollow above the upperlip;
  21. 21. 5. The hollow where the pointof the chin starts curving upto become the upper lip (ifyou pout your lower lip out,the deepest point of the foldyou make doing this is theright place);
  22. 22. 6. On the collarbone on theinner edge where it meetsthe sternum in the middle ofyour chest;
  23. 23. 7. Side of the chest under thearm – this should be at aboutbra band level for women orabout an inch below thearmpit;
  24. 24. 8. The top of the head.
  25. 25. Once you’ve gone throughthe sequence of tapping andaffirmations, it’s time to resetthe energy flows, so tospeak.
  26. 26. At this point, some EFTcounsellors suggest that youroll your eyes and hum ashort song (or one verse of asong).
  27. 27. Then change youraffirmations to a positivestatement – the outcome thatyou want to have happen,and repeat the cycle oftapping.
  28. 28. Phrase these positively: “I’mcomfortable around dogs,”rather than “I’m not afraid ofdogs.”
