  • 3. The EnglishReformation King Henry VII- Catholic who converted to Protestant  Wanted to divorce his wife and marry Anne Boleyn Established the Church of England (protestant) Closed Catholic convents and monasteries- took their land and wealth
  • 4.  Henry VIII married six times! Produced only one surviving son- Edward VI  Became king when he was only 9 years old!  Died in his teens Half sister Mary Tudor became queen  Wanted to return England back to Catholicism  Burned protestants at the stake
  • 5. The Elizabethan Settlement After Mary’s death, the throne passed to Elizabeth Religious compromise  Protestant nation with Catholic traditions  Brought unity to England
