  • Chapter 6 Basic Maneuvers
  • Moving into Traffic
    • Visibility-look at the oncoming traffic, observe any road signs or signals, and notice if someone is behind you.
    • Time-Do you have time to move into the lane, and what is the speed you will need to get into the lane?
    • Space-Is there room for you to enter the roadway?
  • Leaving Traffic
    • Visibility-get in the lane where your destination is, and use your mirrors to check to see if cars are in your way.
    • Time-wait until you are able to make your move safely and make sure you have enough time to do so.
    • Space-make sure there is room in the lane for you to be in.
  • What is the safest way to change lanes?
    • PLAN IN ADVANCE
    • Know where your car is and where you want to go.
    • 3. 4 seconds gap between vehicles
    • 4.What conditions are ahead of you that can impair your driving?
  • How do you make a right turn?
    • 1. Check for signs and markings on the road. Prepare for turn 8-12 sec. ahead of time
    • 2. Choose the correct lane AHEAD OF TIME
    • 3. Communicate your turn by a signal at least 150-200 ft. in advance.
    • 4. Position your vehicle in the lane before turning.
    • 5. The gap from vehicles approaching from left should be 8-11 seconds.
  • Turnabout in execute in 4 ways
    • 1. driving around the block- easiest and safest turnabout method.
    • 2. two-point turns- go head in or reverse in order to do this method. Use in driveways.
    • 3. three point turns- Hardest method-use on narrow streets, with no driveways and light traffic.
    • 4. U-turns -performed in one sweeping turn without using reverse. Make sure it is legal
