U.S. History Current Event Article Summary Directions - Presentation Transcript

    1. Article Summary As a part of your understanding of U.S. History, you should be well versed in current events. Read the newspaper, watch the nightly news, or read a news magazine (i.e. Time or Newsweek not People or Sports Illustrated). Approximately every other week you will be required to bring a news article to share and discuss in class. The article review will be due on Wednesdays. • Find an article from a reputable news source. This should be a newspaper, news magazine, or a news web-site. The article should be from the last seven days and be related to our study. • The news article should take place in the United States and should be a MAJOR news event. Look at the first two words of the article where it states the location of the news event, it should be somewhere INSIDE the U.S. • Bring the article to class. If it is from the newspaper, glue it to a piece of paper (8 ½ by 11). Be sure to write your name, the date, and the period in the upper left-hand corner. If it is from a magazine, staple the article together and write your information in a blank spot on the first page. Draw a circle around this information so it is easy to spot. • Be sure you include the entire article. Make sure the article is firmly attached to a paper, NO LOOSE ENDS OR HANGING PIECES. • BEFORE YOU COME TO CLASS, read and highlight the key points in your article. • On the back of the article paper: 1.) Write a five-sentence (MINIMUM) paragraph summarizing the article. 2.) Write a five-sentence (MINIMUM) paragraph explaining the events leading up to or other pertinent background information to the article. 3.) BONUS-Relate the article to our study of U.S. History in 2-3 sentences (MINIMUM). Article Summary As a part of your understanding of U.S. History, you should be well versed in current events.
