The Middle Passage <ul><li>This was the journey from West Africa across the Atlantic Ocean to the Americas. </li></ul><ul><li>Africans were crowded and chained cruelly aboard slave ships. </li></ul><ul><li>Diseases such as dysentery, malaria, and small pox killed thousands of Africans on this journey. </li></ul><ul><li>20 percent of those who took this journey did not survive. </li></ul>
