eXess Explosion Prevention - Overview

  1. 1. OVERVIEW • A thin mesh of aluminum alloy • Occupies only 1.1% – 1.7% volume of tank • Prevents explosions in all flammable gases/liquids • Reduces emissions between 30% - 80% • Reduces slosh effect by 80% • Unequalled level of safety guaranteed eXess Network Cylindrical Bodies (NCB)eXess Network Rolls (NWR)
  2. 2. 07/01/2007 – Heathrow Airport, United Kingdom • United Kingdom - A major gas leak at Heathrow Airport forced hundreds of guests out of a hotel and caused dozens of flights to be cancelled or diverted. • Fire crews in breathing apparatus used a machine to dampen the escaping gas with fine spray of water to keep it from wafting over Feltham and Hounslow. More than 20 firefighters from Hounslow worked on the emergency for five hours. 11/12/2005 – Bunefield, United Kingdom • A series of explosions caused fires that destroyed the Buncefield fuel depot in Hemel Hempstead, a supplier to Heathrow airport. • The fire was considered the worst to have occurred in the United Kingdom and in Europe since the Second World War, and 15 million litres of water, 250,000 litres of foam and 26 fire engines were required to put out the flames.
  3. 3. 20/09/2007 – Durban, South Africa • The port was closed for a short time after three tanks containing highly flammable liquids at the Island View Terminal exploded. • Firefighters battled flames for more than four hours on Tuesday after an explosion and fire at a chemical storage terminal in the South African port of Durban. Burnt out Fuel bunkers
  4. 4. HOW CAN EXESS IMPROVE THIS! • Floating Roof Installation • Burnex System (Trucks and Foam) • Fuel hydrant pit protection • Petrol tanker installation • Vaporec reduce fuel loss and carbon foot print
  5. 5. FUEL STORAGE OVERIEW • Fuel storage tank fires and fuel tank farm conflagration are two of the most serious and costly disasters for fuel companies • The eXess Safety Floating Roof Solution is the world’s newest, most advanced and most effective response to fuel tank explosions and fires • eXess is the first and only system in the world capable of extinguishing burning fuel storage tanks in as little as 3 to 6 minutes
  6. 6. EXESS’S TWO LEADING FIRE EXTINGISHING SOLUTIONS • Floating Roof Solution with eXess aluminum mesh explosion and fire suppression product • BurnX foam and high speed delivery system
  7. 7. FLOATING ROOF SOLUTION • Properties that allow it to suppress explosion and any concomitant spontaneous combustion by conducting and dissipating heat energy eXess network Rolls
  8. 8. eXess network Rolls
  9. 9. BURNEX FOAM AND HIGH DELIVERY SYSTEM • 5 times lighter than any of its competitors • 10 times less expensive • Lasts 2 times longer • This new, innovative product, can cover an entire Floating Roof, blocking oxygenation and preventing further feeding of a fire • Accompanying delivery vehicles Pictures and diagrams
  10. 10. TANK INSTALLATION ELEMENTS Suction filter element to prevent blockages Cut through section of tank showing eXess installation Petrol guage sensor
  11. 11. EXESS IN TANKER TRUCKS • Explosion Prevention • Increase rigidity of tank by 50% • Reduce evaporation by 60% (Not only fuel lost by environmental impact) • Stability of truck increases by 80% (Slosh effect)
  12. 12. ADVANTAGES • Reduced benzene pollution • Emission-reduction from due to higher VL-ratio • Reduction of safety problems • Gas purification • Recovery of at least 97% emissions through re-condensation • Benefits to health and environment • Reduce Carbon Foot print
  13. 13. EXESS IN RAIL TRANSPORTATION OF FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS • Explosion Prevention • Easy to extinguish fire solution
  14. 14. ADVANTAGES • Cylinder 100% safe against explosion • Controlled pressure release • Cylinders can be filled with 5% additional LPG • No freeze-up of cylinder • Hot work (welding) possible on cylinders Gas cylinder filled with eXess network cylindrical bodies (NWC) after being subjected to extreme high temperature for four hours Gas cylinder without eXess after being subjected to extreme high temperatures for less than 30 minutes
