This is a pupil presentation called the S1 Citizenship Challenge. 2010 the theme was Latin America. Pupils of S1 Hamilton Grammar were assigned a country to research and present back. The class winners progress to the Year Group Final. This was exemplified as good practice for Curriculum for Excellence when it was S1 African Adventure.

    • Mexico City is the capital of Mexico.

    • In Mexico they speak Spanish.
  • 3. History
    • Mexico is a country in North America and the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world. It also has the largest number of Native-American language speakers on the continent. In 1519 Mexico was colonized by Spain for 3 centuries, during which time the majority of its indigenous population died off. In 1821 f ormal independence from Spain was recognized.
  • 4. Charity Projects
    • The Mexico Child Link Trust is a UK charity which runs a project in Mexico for abandoned & homeless children with learning disabilities.
  • 5. Wildlife
    • The Mexican Wolf is a rare subspecies of the Gray wolf . It is native to North America, where it is the rarest and most genetically distinct subspecies.
  • 6. Terrain
    • Almost two-thirds of the country's terrain consists of mountains and highlands while deserts dominate the north and tropical rain forests are found in the south.
  • 7. Famous People
    • Hugo Sánchez Márquez was born July 11, 1958, he is a Mexican football coach and former striker. He played for four European clubs, including Real Madrid. He was also a member of the Mexico national team, and participated in three world cups.
    • Carlos Alberto Vela Garrido was born 1 March 1989 and is a Mexican footballer, currently playing striker for Arsenal of the English Premier League. He also plays for the Mexico football team.
