  • Where do you get volcanoes and why? Volcanoes are created when magma from the mantle can escape through a crack in the crust. We have already seen where the mantle is exposed on the ocean floor in the Mid-Atlantic ridge, so along this plate margin and all other constructive margins, volcanoes can occur. But these are not the only places where volcanoes can occur. First look at the map of the plates.
