  • 1. HBE HAS GROWN FROM A SMALL CONSTRUCTION COMPANYTO A NATIONAL CORPORATION THAT IS A MAJOR FORCEIN CHANGING THE HIGHLY FRAGMENTED ENGINEERING,ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES.OUR SINGLE-SOURCE APPROACH TO THE PLANNING, DESIGNING,AND BUILDING OF PROJECTS HAS ESTABLISHED STANDARDSOF EFFICIENCY AND VALUE UNMATCHED IN THE MARKETSWE SERVE. HBE TODAY RANKS AS THE NATION’S LARGEST ANDMOST EXPERIENCED PLANNER, DESIGNER, AND BUILDEROF HEALTHCARE FACILITIES. WE HAVE COMPLETEDHUNDREDS OF HOSPITALS ACROSS THE COUNTRYAND GAINED A NATIONAL REPUTATION AS AN ORGANIZATIONCAPABLE OF EXECUTING COMPLICATED PROJECTS WITHHIGH QUALITY, INNOVATIVE DESIGN, ENGINEERING,AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES. 3
  • 2. HBE DESIGNED AND BUILT HUNDREDS OF HOSPITAL AND HEALTHCARE PROJECTS BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Projects have ranged in size from facilities with as few as 21 beds to as many as 1,000 beds. HBE also provides planning, design, and construction services for medical office buildings, group practice clinics, surgicenters, and outpatient clinics. The corporation has a strong understanding of the needs of physicians and the growing outpatient services area. Combined with its expertise in real estate, planning, and financing, HBE has also provided clients with quality medical buildings.4 5
  • 3. SKILLED MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAMS Each multi-disciplinary project team coordinates input from a staff of professionals who are among the most experienced technicians in their fields. The professional staff at HBE includes more than 400 individuals including architects, engineers, and design/construction professionals who work out of the St. Louis headquarters. HBE also has healthcare and financial consultants who assist in the planning, programming, and development of each project.6 7

  • 6. The HBE design-build project delivery method provides you two key advantages over other delivery options. 1. You will always know exactly what you are getting before you pay for it. 2. At the earliest stage of design, architectural services are coordinated with engineering and construction disciplines to insure constructability. We believe you should know what you are getting before you pay for it. That is why we provide you with a conceptual design and a guaranteed lump sum price for construction before we ask for your commitment.12 13
  • 7. CONSIDER THE ADVANTAGEOF AN INTEGRATED TEAMASSEMBLED AROUND ATABLE FOR YOUR PROJECT. Consider the advantage of an integrated team assembled around the table for your project. During planning, conceptual design, and design development, the key individual coordinating activity between HBE and your hospital will be a Vice President of Project Development. Following the signing of the construction contract, a full-time site superintendent will be assigned. This individual will be supported by a regional construction manager, a vice president of operations for construction and an architectural project manager/contract administrator, who will enforce the requirements of the contract through the duration of the project. 14 15
  • 8. NO FINANCIAL COMMITMENT. YOU INCUR NO FINANCIAL OBLIGATION UNTIL YOU ARE COMPLETELY SATISFIED WITH OUR PROPOSED DESIGN SOLUTION. HBE ASSUMES MAJOR UP-FRONT PLANNING AND DESIGN RISK. 1 2 T H E H B E M E T H O D | A N I N T E G R AT E D F O U R P H A S E P R O C E S S 3 4 AS THE NATION’S LEADING HEALTHCARE DESIGN-B U I L D F I R M , W E A R E N O T O N LY L A R G E E N O U G H T O A S S U M E S U C H R I S K , BUT WE ALSO BELIEVE IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.16
  • 9. PHASE 1: ASSESSMENT OF EXISTING BUILDING 1 PROGRAM/PLAN DEVELOPMENT Assessment of existing building program – We begin with a detailed and thorough analysis of your existing building program, including a review of all existing architectural plans and conditions, space and strategic plans, master plans and other planning materials. A technical tour of your facility/campus will also be conducted to gain an overall perspective of existing conditions and infrastructure. Within a compressed time frame, HBE will provide: • Detailed schematic drawings • Project development schedule • Guaranteed lump sum amount for architectural design, engineering, Group 1 equipment and construction.1 23 4 19
  • 10. 2 PHASE 2: DESIGN DEVELOPMENT & BUDGET PREPARATION Refining the solution – Once you determine there is value in the design solution, we will assign appropriate personnel to work directly with you as follows: 1. The vice president of project development will: a. coordinate HBE internal technical resources to refine our solution so that it is yours and, b. price the solution. 2. A design architect will work with you and your staff to assure the design solution meets your organizational needs. Letter of Authorization – When you recognize a distinct value in HBE’s approach to a design solution and ready to move forward with HBE on an exclusive basis, a brief Letter of Authorization (LOA) is all that is required. This LOA signifies that the hospital and HBE will work through a planning process intended to result in a specific project. The LOA also clearly spells out the HBE guarantee of “no up-front risk” for the hospital. 1 2 3 420
  • 11. 3 PHASE 3: CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS & CONTRACT DOCUMENTS 1. Once the design and a guaranteed lump sum price are agreed upon, working drawings will be developed with the hospital’s approval. 2. Costs for the development of working drawings will be billed as the drawings progress.1 23 4 23
  • 12. 4 PHASE 4: CONSTRUCTION Construction Phase - When you are convinced that your project is designed for optimum efficiency and maximizing the value of your capital investment, HBE will provide a contract for your review and approval to proceed to construction. 1 2 3 424

It is the integrated approach to architectural design and engineering early in the process that produces superior results. In addition, the HBE guaranteed lump sum price allows owners to make informed judgments of value.26 27
