Unit 1 Overview

  1. 1. <ul><li>In Y9 you will complete Unit 1 (ICT Skills for Business). </li></ul><ul><li>You should already have completed Unit 21 (Creating Computer Graphics) in Y8. </li></ul><ul><li>You will gain a OCR Level 2 National First Award in ICT. </li></ul><ul><li>This is equivalent to a GCSE qualification: </li></ul><ul><li>PASS Grade C </li></ul><ul><li>MERIT Grade B </li></ul><ul><li>DISTINCTION Grade A </li></ul>
  2. 2. <ul><li>File Management - Task 1 </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to set up a file management system and maintain this accurately throughout the unit including: </li></ul><ul><li>Create named folders and subfolders </li></ul><ul><li>Locate, open and save using suitable filenames </li></ul><ul><li>Create shortcuts </li></ul><ul><li>Password protect </li></ul><ul><li>Backup and restore </li></ul><ul><li>Delete, copy and move files and folders </li></ul>

  5. 5. <ul><li>Create a spreadsheet – Task 4 </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to create a spreadsheet for downloadable tunes. </li></ul><ul><li>Make a spreadsheet from given data </li></ul><ul><li>Use formulae to work out sums </li></ul><ul><li>Format cells </li></ul><ul><li>Use suitable title for your work </li></ul><ul><li>Add and delete data </li></ul><ul><li>Print using page setting and then annotate </li></ul><ul><li>Add headers and footers </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>Use a database – Task 5 </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to use a database to record customer details, target specific customers groups and prepare reports. </li></ul><ul><li>Import an existing database into our user area </li></ul><ul><li>Add and delete records </li></ul><ul><li>Amend and sort records </li></ul><ul><li>Produce queries and reports </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Create Business Documents – Task 6 </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to create a number of business documents, such as letters and memos. The letter will explain special offers and the memo will explain changes to the spreadsheet. </li></ul><ul><li>Create a professional letter which contains specific information and is free from errors </li></ul><ul><li>Spell check the document and make necessary changes </li></ul><ul><li>Fully annotate the documents and justify why you chose fonts/sizes/paragraphs/justification/image editing </li></ul><ul><li>Produce a flyer to advertise special promotions </li></ul><ul><li>Use mail merge facility from database </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>Create a Newsletter – Task 7 </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to create a two page newsletter that will be sent out to all the company’s customers. It will contain details about company history, special offers, and music reviews. </li></ul><ul><li>Create a professional newsletter which contains specific information and is free from errors </li></ul><ul><li>Spell check the document and make necessary changes </li></ul><ul><li>Fully annotate the documents and justify why you chose fonts/sizes/paragraphs/justification/image editing </li></ul><ul><li>Include images from a variety of sources </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>Create a Presentation – Task 8 </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to create a PowerPoint presentation of at least 3 slides. This will help you give a talk to a new colleague at “Downloadable Tunes” </li></ul><ul><li>Create a professional PowerPoint presentation which contains specific information and is free from errors using slide master </li></ul><ul><li>Spell check the document and make necessary changes </li></ul><ul><li>Use slide transition and custom animation appropriate for your target audience </li></ul><ul><li>Print out in handout form and fully annotate to show sources and speaker notes </li></ul>
