How can parents help? <ul><li>Provide a quiet place for homework and make sure your student reads and studies for classes even when an assignment is not due the next day </li></ul><ul><li>Look at your student’s daily planner and sign progress reports, use parent portal, have high expectations. </li></ul><ul><li>Call or email the school/teacher whenever you have a concern or question – Check Website </li></ul><ul><li>Enroll and be sure your student attends the After School Academy </li></ul><ul><li>Join PTSA, School Site Council or ELAC to provide the school with input, suggestions, ideas to help your student </li></ul><ul><li>Volunteer to help out. Always appreciated! </li></ul>

Ways Parents Can Be Involved at Monterey High <ul><li>School Site Council: An elected decision-making body of the school that reviews school programs and services and approves the School Plan and allocation of funds. </li></ul><ul><li>English Learner Advisory Council: A group of parents who review programs and services specific to serving students who are learning English as a second language </li></ul>

Monterey High’s Parent Involvement Plan <ul><li>-Please help us connect with you as parents and </li></ul><ul><li>support students in graduation from high school </li></ul><ul><li>and pursuing their goals: </li></ul><ul><li>-Your student is College material! </li></ul><ul><li>-How can we involve you in your student’s </li></ul><ul><li>educational experience at high school? </li></ul><ul><li>-Parent Portal this semester. </li></ul><ul><li>-Monthly Meetings, 3 rd Thursday of each month </li></ul>

What to expect from your classroom visitation? <ul><li>Course outline to describe the standards and curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>Course syllabus that describes by the quarter the major assignments, tests, and projects to include the grading policy for the course </li></ul><ul><li>Classroom policy and procedures </li></ul><ul><li>Information about contacting the teacher and signing up for parent conferences </li></ul><ul><li>Ways students can get extra help </li></ul>
