2007 – 2011 Application of Performance Excellence Model
Using the performance excellence* frameworks of Malcolm Baldrige, EFQM and Japan Quality
Award, I developed diagnosis and facilitation program* related to management practices and
organizational culture for in-house application, and conducted facilitation programs for the
executive and the plant management at European, American, and some Asian units.
Performance Excellence Model is a comprehensive set of management frameworks, knowledge
and experiences. It is rich in many practical ideas and frameworks which themselves are very
useful. The most important, however, is to know that they are backed by academic studies.
Understanding the theoretical pieces will deepen the analysis in the background of good
management practices. (So I recommend that you look into the theoretical aspects as well. I
regret that many people, even high-ranking, prefer to search practical tools and neglect theories.
In reality, high-ranking leadership will require more conceptual skills and competencies.)
(* Diagnosis program for managementpractices and organizational culture is,as it were, an organizational
“health check”,through which we try to understand our habits in systems,daily practices, and working
environmentofour own organization.Based upon our awareness on such habits,we will look for “better
habits” to strengthen “our own body” (=which will lead to Performance Excellence,in other words, a
continuous improvementofquality in our managementprocess.)
