    E Learn Lesson Sec 1 A - Presentation Transcript

    1. Let’s get started writing essays! E-learn lesson for 1A!
    2.
    3. Simple narrative
      • - For today’s lesson, we are going to try a simple narrative writing piece. This means you will write a short composition for me. But don’t worry, there will be help for you along the way.
    4. What is a narrative?
      • A narrative is a story with a beginning, middle and end.
      • Think! What stories are
      • you familiar with?
    5. Beginnings
      • There are some phrases which are commonly used to begin essays. This can get you started!
      • Phrases
      • 1) It was a cloudless, sunny day and the sky was a clear blue..
    6. Beginnings
      • 2) It was a blazing hot day..
      • 3) The alarm rang and I rolled over to turn it off..
      • 4)It was a starry night..
    7. Beginnings
      • However, remember that these are just a few
      • simple ways to begin a story. Get creative
      • guys! Try to make sure that your first paragraph
      • Gets the reader’s attention and tells the reader
      • a little bit about what is going to happen.
    8. Example of beginning paragraph for the story “an unlucky day”
      • I rolled over and switched off my alarm clock,
      • saying to myself that I would just snooze for
      • another 5 minutes and then wake up. When I
      • opened one eye to check, I realized that it was
      • 8 ‘o’ clock! Feeling panicked, I rushed towards
      • the shower. This was not a good start to the
      • day.
    9. How to end things off?
      • Your story should not come to an end too
      • Abruptly. Imagine if a story ended with “My
      • teacher shouted and threw my book out of a
      • window.” The story did not tell you if the
      • matter was settled or how the person felt. You
      • Will need to say how you felt and how matters
      • In your story were settled.
    10.
    11. Your assignment
      • You will be required to write me a composition
      • on “an unlucky day”. You will need to write at
      • least 120 words . Read the following slides for
      • tips to guide you along in the writing process.
    12. The beginning
      • How did your unlucky day start off? Did you
      • wake up late for school? Were you meeting a
      • friend and they cancelled?
      • Did you lose something important?
      • There are many ways to begin, it all depends
      • on what you want.
    13. The middle
      • Remember that your whole day was unlucky. What other unlucky things happened to you in the day? I would like all of you to make your best attempt at paragraphing for me please.
    14. The End!
      • How did you feel throughout the day? How
      • did you feel at the end of the day? How were
      • matters settled? You need to include such
      • things in your final paragraph.
