    • Measures website "quality“ and decides which website is ranked higher in case of competition
    • Page Rank-Scale: 1-10
    • (0 bad, 10 very good)
    • Factors which influence Page Rank:
      • How many other websites are linking to my site?
      • How high is their Page Rank?
      • To how many other Website do they link besides yours?

    • Direct links (no links which come from an adserver)
    • If a site which links to another site is indexed by Google
    • If the link isn’t defined by “no follow attribute” (if you have duplicated content and you don’t want the SE to index this content, you define the Html attribute “no follow”)

    • That’s good:
    • If the website contains a lot of links from e.g. other blogs or websites.
    • Important question: Does the other website rank to the same keywords we want to be optimized with?
    • Google has the answer: By just googling a specific keyword, you’ll find top-ranked websites which could boost your traffic, if they linked to you.
    • Not so good:
    • If a website just has a few links but a really high Page Rank (Probably the links were bought and aren’t permanently steady).

  • 6. Link acquisition strategy
    • Linkbaiting: Produce good content and emphasize that this content is meant to be shared.
    • Social Media Optimization: Platforms like digg.com or delicious.com can bring a lot of traffic + backlinks.
    • Exchange links with website partner without any relevancy (very old fashioned, Google doesn’t like this very much)
    • Be aware of “bad neighborhood”: Websites with dubious , low quality content or more links than anything else, shouldn’t link to our website.

  • 7. Link concentration should look natural
    • To really boost your website traffic you should have:
    • high traffic links e.g. from a university site or public site
    • Many links from relevant blogs/websites with less traffic (PR 1-4)
    • Keywords in Link text: Increases keyword ranking of landing page
    • Deeplinks: Try also to get links to under pages (not just front page)
