LR Forum Mike Moran RSCni Programme 10:00 Registration and Tea/Coffee 10.20 Welcome and Introductions Mike Moran - RSCni 10.30 Visits to College Libraries in London – Ruth Hutchinson made a number of visits to college libraries earlier this year. She will share her observations on what she saw and discuss these with participants. Ruth Hutchinson – LR Manager, Northern Regional College 11:00 News Exchange Among LR Staff – An opportunity for delegates to exchange news on LR developments and activities in colleges 11.15 Common Practices in Inducting Students and Staff – At this time of the year colleges will be starting to plan for their new intakes of users after the summer. This session will kick off an exchange of ideas across the colleges on what approaches are currently being used and try to distil the best. A prompt sheet is provided separately for participants to consider in advance of the Forum. Participants 12.00 Options for Providing Induction Materials – a review of some of the tools that can be used for producing and distributing materials. LR Forum Mike Moran RSCni Group Discussion We are going to use a technique called ‘Stirring Pots’ to generate and record ideas that are being used or could be used in devising or improving your approach to induction. Stirring Pots The aim of the exercise is to distil a set of ideas onto a single information sheet that can be shared afterwards. Here is an example of a completed Stirring Pot Sheet

LR Forum <ul><li>Stirring Pots </li></ul><ul><li>Work in groups of 2-4 from different colleges </li></ul><ul><li>You will given a set of different coloured Post It notes on which to record ideas (and your name); </li></ul><ul><li>Use: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Yellow notes for topics all of your group normally includes in their induction; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Green notes for any software that you use for making induction materials; and </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Pink notes for any new approaches that you would like to use in the future; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Spend 15 min on this part of the exercise. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>After this part of the exercise the cards will be put on a table for you to look at and pick out the ones that interest you; </li></ul><ul><li>Find the person that wrote the card and ask them to spend 3 min explaining to you what is involved or planned – do as many cards as you have an interest in and put them back on the table afterwards – spend 15 min on this in total; </li></ul><ul><li>Agree/vote on the cards that should be included in the Stirring Pots sheet ‘ Induction ’ </li></ul><ul><li>The chosen cards will be created as a sheet and emailed to participants. </li></ul>Mike Moran RSCni
