The MEEA Policy Webinar: A Midwest Look at the Better Buildings Challenge was held on Thursday, October 11th from 1-2pm CDT. The webinar focused on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge. Maria Vargas, the Better Buildings Challenge Director, gave an overview of the challenge with examples of partners and allies involved. Matt Gray, City of Cleveland, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability presented on the city’s experience and accomplishments related to the challenge. Matt also outlined the city’s goals moving forward which include incorporating energy efficiency implementation models into the Sustainable Cleveland Municipal Action Plan, and to continue to support growth of the Cleveland 2030 District. Kevin Moyer, Executive Director of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority discussed the City of Toledo’s experience with the Better Buildings Challenge. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority & the City of Toledo are joint partners with DOE on the challenge and their goals are to improve energy efficiency 20% by 2015, as well as to save money and create jobs in the city.
