Hoover Dam Virtual Field Trip - Presentation Transcript

    1. Hoover Dam Virtual Field Trip
    2. Take elevator going down  The elevator holds close to 60 people and takes you down 50 stories. Wow!  It only takes 6 seconds to reach the bottom.  When you get to the bottom you walk through dark tunnels like the one on the left.
    3. So that’s how they did it!  This diagram shows exactly how the Hoover Dam was constructed.  Four large tunnels were used to carry the water away from the site where the Hoover Dam was going to be built. Today they are used as an emergency precaution if lake mead was to flood.
    4. Let there be Light  These are called turbines. Water rushing through openings in the dam causes huge machines to spin. The spinning turbines create electricity. This electricity is sold to help pay for the dam.  Did you know these 17 turbines power all of Nevada and the Southern part of California!
    5. I’m in Nevada and Arizona!
