  2. 2.  Theory of learning  “All behaviors are acquired through conditioning” Conditioning occurs through interactions with the environment2 types of conditioning
  3. 3. Types of Conditioning  Classical Conditioning:  natural reflex that occurs in response to a stimulus  Operant Conditioning:  learning is a result of positive/negative reinforcements and punishments
  4. 4. Operant Conditioning  Positive reinforcement:  Add something to increase desired behavior  Negative reinforcement:  Remove something to increase desired behavior  Positive punishment:  Add something to decrease undesired behavior  Negative punishment:  Remove something to decrease undesired behavior
  5. 5.  Ivan Pavlov B.F. Skinner Edward Thorndike John B. Watson Clark Hull Albert Bandura
  6. 6. .o Born September 14,1849o Died February 27, 1936o Researched physiology and digestiono Won Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1904o Became famous for behavioral experiments with dogs o Used classical conditioning to teach dogs to salivate when he rang a bell
  7. 7.  Positive Reinforcements  Commending student on correct answer  Praising students to their parents  Stickers on good assignments  Picking students as “special helpers” for good behavior  Prizes for good behavior Positive Punishments  Behavioral contracts  Detention
  8. 8. . Negative Reinforcements  Making final exam optional (with appropriate grades)  Lowest grade gets dropped  Homework pass Negative Punishments  Taking away recess  No talking
  9. 9.  Behaviorism will be used in my classroom to…  Increase good behavior  Decrease bad behavior  Help push students to excellence It is important to reward students who…  Are on task  Improve  Excel
  10. 10.  It is important to discipline students who…  Disrupt the class  Are off task  Are not trying their hardest Techniques I will use  Prizes/rewards for students  Constructive/positive feedback  Revoke privileges for misbehaving students
