  • 1. How do I….place a hold….. on a book?
  • 2. What is a “hold?” If you wish to borrow a book that has been checked out by someone else, you can place a hold on it. When the book is returned to thelibrary, then you can place a hold on the book.
  • 3. Look up the book in the online Catalog at www.cincinnatilibrary.org
  • 4. The Item Information Record willtell you if the book is checked out.
  • 5. Click on the Place Hold link. It islocated on the left hand side of the screen.
  • 6. A log in screen will appear.
  • 7. Enter your login information.
  • 8. Click on “Place Hold.”
  • 9. This tells you that the hold was placed successfully!
  • 10. When the book becomes available…. You will be notified by phone or email when your hold is available. Please contact your local library if you have any questions.
  • 11. Placing Holds on MaterialsAbout “Holds” Cardholders may place holds on most types of materials. A maximum number of items a person can place on hold may be established. The following materials may not be placed on hold: Reference materials New Release Feature film DVDs
  • 12. Please Note……More than one person can place a hold on a book. *You will receive it based on the order of your hold. *A book cannot be renewed once a hold is placed on it.
  • 13.  Remember……. Holds cannot be placed if….. *The item is a Reference material or a New Release Feature film DVD.*You have reached the allowable amount of holds. (7)*You have unpaid fines or overdue materials.
  • 14. If you no longer want the book…. Go to the Catalog page….Go to “My Account” then click on “Holds”
  • 15. Select the hold you wish to cancel and click the box next to it. Then click on cancel.
  • 16. You will see a message confirming your “cancelled” hold.
