Today we will manipulate very large and very small numbers. <ul><li>Manipulate =work with </li></ul><ul><li>very large numbers – numbers in the millions or higher; have 7 or more digits </li></ul><ul><li>very small numbers - numbers in the thousandths or smaller; thousandths are fractional parts of 1000 </li></ul>
  2. 2. Vocabulary <ul><li>Standard form – A number written with one digit for each place value. </li></ul><ul><li>123,789 </li></ul><ul><li>Word form – A number written in words. </li></ul><ul><li>One hundred twenty-three thousand, </li></ul><ul><li>seven hundred eighty-nine </li></ul>

  7. 7. Tip 690,492 Do not use “and” when writing whole numbers. The word “and” will be used when you are reading numbers with decimals. Six hundred and ninety-thousand, and four hundred and ninety-two.
