Staying focused when you’re working from home can be super challenging since there are many
distractions in a work from home environment. For many people the work from home lifestyle sounds inviting
since you can set your own hours, you don’t have a boss breathing down your neck, you can dress how you
want, and as a stay at home mom, I can definitely tell you that there are many benefits, but there are also
risks that need to be considered.
It takes a lot of discipline to work from home. It’s not as easy as people make it out to be. You got things
like chores, family, pets, errands, T.V, a.k.a. distractions. In order to succeed in working from home you

have to understand that even though you have a tremendous amount of flexibility, it must be taken seriously
and must be treated as a professional career and not as a hobby.
I’ve been working from home for a couple years now and as a stay at home mom I can tell you that it’s not
easy, but it it is doable so in this post I will share some tips that have helped me focus on the tasks that
matter, and help me have a productive day
1. Get Dressed For Work
Okay, I know that it’s real tempting to stay in your underwear or your pajamas. I mean you’re home…right?
Your home has become your workplace and getting dressed and ready for work will help put you in the
mindset of getting up and getting ready to work.
2. Set Your Hours
If you have a work from home job with an employer then your hours are already set. If you are running a
home based business, it’s important that you plan ahead and set a time each day that you will work your
Business. Once you set your hours let your friends and family know that you are not available during those
hours. You need to set a time to advertise and market to send people to presentations, conduct webinars,
create content, prospect and anything that will help you produce income.
3. Stay Motivated
When you are working from home you are working for yourself so it’s important to stay motivated because
it’s easy to get distracted, lose focus and get discouraged when you are not producing the results that you
want in your home based business. Set your mindset for success by writing down your goals, reading them
aloud and focusing real hard on your WHY. Make it a habit to read daily and listen to audios that will inspire
you and drive you towards your success. Belief is the key component to your success
4. Stay Healthy
Make it a point to eat right and stay active. It’s going to help you stay focused on your tasks and it will help
you get in the mood of action. Believe me when I say that it takes a lot of energy to run a business from
home and consistency is key. Working out daily helps you be in a good mood and feel motivated to take

action. It also helps you concentrate too. There’s a bunch of benefits to working out besides some that I
mentioned but it’s great for focus.
5. Create Your Work environment
Whichever room you choose to work in or maybe you don’t have a room…you probably just have a space.
Whatever room or space you choose to work from, make it professional. Set up a calendar or agenda, a to
do list on your desk. I have a picture of my kids, books on personal development, a whiteboard nearby, and
inspirational quotes on my wall…but that’s just me. It really depends on you and your style. Be creative and
however you decide to set up your workplace, make sure it makes you feel good.
6. Take Breaks
If you don’t take a break you’re going to feel overwhelmed. Every hour take a short break and get some
coffee, tea, or take a walk. Do what you need to do but for heaven’s sake…take a break!
7. Find other people that do what you do
There’s a bunch of people who are working from home and some are even making a fortune at it. The cool
thing about finding people like you is that you can actually learn new strategies of building your business,
you can ask questions, and there are people that are like­minded and that genuinely care about your
success and want to help you grow.
8. Learn to prioritize
When you’re running a home business, there’s plenty to do. As a matter of fact there are lots of tasks that
you need to complete daily. Prioritize your task with the top 3 first, and don’t stop doing one task until you
get it done.
In conclusion the key to staying focused while working from home depends on you and how you treat your
business. If you are passionate about what you do and love it then do whatever it takes to succeed at it
