HOW RELIGION INFLUENCES IN THEIR LIVES
-Dubai is one of the most liberal places in the Middle East and followers of other
religions are tolerated. However, visitors are expected to respect Islam following certain
rules:

Don’t walk in front of somebody when they are praying.
Don’t drink alcohol in the street or in public places.
Avoid passionate displays of affection in public.
Women should save their beachwear for the beach.

In everyday life women are obligated to hide under the burka. It’s a veil that covers
hair, face, neck and sometimes their hands as well.
- This clothing is imposed by their husbands, and if they are kids by their father.
Allah forces women to wear it all the time because it will protect them from
possible abuses.

- Allah says that women must hide their beauty to avoid exciting men who in that
case could attack them. If a woman is sexually abused while not wearing the
burka she is guilty because she was showing her beauty and provoking men.

By seeing the clothing a woman is forced to wear, we can anticipate the discrimination
and oppression they suffer. Although Allah expresses equality between a man and a
woman: same rights and duties, but it’s a different reality they live.

Women Are forbidden to:
- Drive a car
- Walk in the neighborhoods
- go to the bazaar and sit in the stores
- meet in a group in public
- Repudiate their husbands without explaining while the men doesn’t have to.

After their first menses, they are considered grown women so they must find a husband.
But it’s not the maternal family who chooses the husband it’s the other way around: the
man family chooses the wife and she must accept him whether she likes him or not.

• Men are found in a different situation. Their supremacy is established by the law.
Woman are isolated in order to insurance their fidelity. However, the Islam
accepts the polygamy and men are allowed to have concubines. Must support
his wife or wives and give them equitably.
• Can hit or punish his wives if they are not obedient.
