Late applications will not be considered. Applications will be assessed by at least 3 independent assessors and then ranked for consideration by the DART Grant Review Panel, who will make recommendations to the Directors of the Trust for funding. It is intended that the announcement of successful grants will be made on or around World Diabetes Day, November 14, 2010.
Grants will be paid only to non-profit organisations concerned with the promotion of health care, education and/or medical research in the area of diabetes and possessing the requisite basic facilities to carry out the proposed study program. Grants must be used to support a particular program, under the supervision of a responsible investigator, with the approval of the head or director of the appropriate institution, department or employing body.
Applicants for DART grants are expected to assess at least 3 other DART applications as requested.
All personnel whose salaries are funded by grants will be subject to the conditions of employment of the institution, department or other body by which they are employed. The responsible investigator (i.e. the grant applicant) must ensure that personnel funded for full-time positions devote their whole time to the approved research project.
Salaries of personnel should be carefully checked to ensure that amounts requested are fully met. The exact classification and position on salary scale of all personnel for whom salaries are sought must be stated (where known). These should be checked with the appropriate administrative authority of the employing body.
Grants will not be made to institutions who withdraw funds from DART grants for administrative or other indirect charges. Justification of budget must be clearly documented to ensure proper assessment of grant applications.
Projects are expected to finish within one calendar year for DART Grants and two calendar years for Millennium and Viertel Awards.
Within three months of the expiry of each granting period, a report must be forwarded to Diabetes Australia. This report must be in two parts:
A proforma summary not exceeding one page, expressed in terms suitable for public release; and
Additional detailed material suitable for review by professionals in related areas. Failure to comply with this condition will preclude consideration of any new application.
Any publication arising from work funded by these awards must acknowledge the support of the granting body and specific sponsors where relevant.
Reviewer’s comments can be made available on request. It should be noted that it is a requirement of application that each applicant (the primary investigator and the co investigators) agree to undertaking up to a minimum of 3 other grant assessments as may be requested by the DART grant review panel. Refusal to do so may result in that application not being considered for assessment.
NB* It is also a requirement of all General Research Grant applicants to nominate (and justify the nomination of) three (3) potential assessors for their grant application. For Millennium and Viertel Grants it is a requirement that applicant nominate (and justify the nomination of) five (5) potential assessors for their grant application.
It is expected that the grantee will make every effort to present the findings at a future ADS and/or Australia Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) Scientific Meeting.
DART General Research Grant Conditions
General Grants will be awarded for a one-year period, and will not normally exceed $60,000.
