EBSCO MISSION: COMBINE TECHNOLOGY WITH CONTENT TO MEET THE INFORMATION NEEDS OF MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS
EBSCO is the world’s largest intermediary between
libraries and publishers and is a trusted friend to
most academic publishers
EBSCO is the only aggregator who shares the same
core business as publishers (print and e-journal
subscriptions) – this makes publishers feel more at
ease in licensing their content
Other aggregators have no financial penalty when customers cancel journal subscriptions as a result of full text database access. This is a major concern for publishers.
EBSCO has been careful to alert it’s customers to the
dangers of canceling print subscriptions and relying only
on database access – this too has been noticed
and appreciated by publishers
Why do publishers of medical journals favor EBSCO?
EBSCO has made a massive investment to protect its customers from turmoil and to add many new journals – some scholarly publishers are motivated by profit and have responded very well to this unprecedented initiative
Other publishers, particularly many scholarly societies, are motivated less by profit and more by exposure of their journals to professors and researchers in markets they have been unable to reach directly
EBSCO’s full text databases are available in every university in nearly fifty nations, including many of those most desired by societies (such as Russia, Poland, South Africa, etc.)
EBSCO is expanding backfiles for many publications and providing electronic content back to publishers as a service

The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
Cochrane Reviews are full text articles reviewing the effects of healthcare. The reviews are highly structured and systematic, with evidence included or excluded on the basis of explicit quality criteria, to minimize bias.
Data are often combined statistically (with meta-analysis) to increase the power of the findings of numerous studies, each too small to produce reliable results individually.
Cochrane reviews are regularly updated as new evidence emerges, and in response to comments and criticisms
