  2. 2. - In a 2006 survey, 100 million video clips are viewed daily on YouTube, with an additional 65,000 new videos uploaded every 24 hours. - The website averages nearly 20 million visitors per month, where around 44% are female, 56% male, and the 12- to 17-year-old age group is dominant - During 2006, YouTube was one of the fastest growing websites on the Web, and was ranked the 5th most popular website on Alexa, far out pacing even MySpace's rate of growth - Youtube commands up to 64% of the UK online video market - On October 9, 2006, Google purchased Youtube by for US$1.65 billion in stock. - According to market research, YouTube users are 1.5 times more attentive and engaged in advertising than TV viewers.

YouTube is one of the worlds’ most popular video sharing websites, which anyone can post a video; these videos make their way into the public media and sometimes find their way onto the news, entertainment shows, and commercials. People can also use YouTube to communicate with others, the different tools within the site allow users to subscribe, add friends, comment, rate, view and share videos with the rest of the community. The types of videos on YouTube range from movie clips, TV clips, music videos, video blogs, comedy shows, live musical performances, and various other forms of media. Before the launch of YouTube in 2005, there were very few easy methods available for ordinary computer users who wanted to post videos online. With its simple interface, YouTube made it possible for anyone with an Internet connection to post a video that a worldwide audience could watch within a few minutes. The wide range of topics covered by YouTube has turned video sharing into one of the most important parts of Internet culture.

The CNN-YouTube Presidential Debates During the 2008 U.S Presidential Election, YouTube was utilized as a medium to promote, support, and publicized the presidential candidates and showcased the impact of political viral videos. For the first time in political history, the candidates took part in the CNN-YouTube presidential debates hosted by YouTube, in which viewers could submit their questions to YouTube within a certain time period, which were then submitted to the candidates. Launched on December 1, 2008, it is the first-ever online collaborative orchestra. Winners, mostly amateur musicians, were invited to travel to New York in April 2009, to participate in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra summit, and play at Carnegie Hall. As of the concert date 15 million YouTube viewers had watched the audition tapes. Currently, YouTube is the United State’s third most viewed site on the web according to website Information Company, behind only Yahoo, and Google. It has passed social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook in web traffic, as well as amount of users. To this day, YouTube continues to grow at a fast rate.
