Killzone

Killzone is a fps exclusive to the PS2

It faced mixed reviews but was praised for its hard sci-fi art style as well as drawing inspiration from WWII Nazi Germany.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvM7CJAoYT4

Why is it effective?

Adds realism and depth without personal attachment.

Plays on pre conceived ideas about how we view the world, which makes it easier for the player to understand the themes in the game.

Games like Call of duty and Medal of honour have a representational art style, being confined by a concrete historical subject, even if the story elements are fictional they still aim for gritty realism.

Killzone has the benefit of being completely fictional with a sci – fi setting and has more creative freedom over its design, it can use real world events as its influence but doesn’t need to be historically correct. It makes a completely fictional story seem far more real and helps to immerse the player in the game.
