  • 1. Definition: Sand is a loose, fragmented, naturally- occurring material consisting of very small particles [fine to medium-sized particles between 2mm and 0.06mm] of decomposed rocks, corals, or shells.
  • 2.    Pit Sand: Sharp Angular, Porous and Free from salt. River Sand: Fine, Round, Polish and Free from salt. Sea sand: Fine, Round, Polish and Contains salt.
  • 3. Fine Sand: All particles passing through #16 ASTM Sieve.  Medium Sand: All particles passing through #8 ASTM Sieve.  Course Sand: All particles passing through #4 ASTM Sieve. 
