      • British general Patrick Ferguson traveled to North Carolina to recruit loyalists
      • Needed troops to protect Cornwallis’ forces
      • Ferguson angered colonists by challenging them
      • Rebels needed a victory to raise morale

      • Patriots made an advance
      • British retreated but Patriots caught up
      • At 3p.m. the battle began at King’s Mountain
      • Groups of 100 – 200 Patriots would surround Loyalists
      • Ferguson was shot 7 times and killed
