  2. 2. A & T is a telecommunication company operating in Pakistan for the past four years. The company has a tradition of organizing Eid parties at the office where employees get together and also meet the senior management. The event provides an opportunity for staff interaction. This year the Managing Director has decided not to hold an Eid party at office instead he has asked you to organize a dinner for staff and their families at a local hotel on 10th June. The move is aimed at bringing staff and their families close to one another and also meet A & T Directors. As Manager for A & T write a memo informing staff about the decision, you will circulate further details next week. However you may ask those employees wishing to attend to leave their names with you before 6th June.<br />
  3. 3. To: All Staff Members<br /> From: Manager<br /> Subject: Staff Dinner<br /> Date:<br /> This year there will be no Eid Party as in previous years. Instead, staff and their families are invited to join company directors at Hotel Pine View on the evening of 10th June for dinner. Further details will be circulated next week. Those wishing to attend please leave their names with me before 6th June.<br />
  4. 4. You joined M Rock (Clothes selling co) eight years ago as Assistant Manager. At that time there were only three staff members reporting to you. The company recorded phenomenal growth over the years and the number of employees also rose to sixty seven. With increase in the number of staff, discipline problems also surface from time to time and you as a Manager have to handle such cases in an appropriate way. The following two cases have been reported to you by your Assistant Manager and you have also got them verified from two other sources. As a Manager you are supposed to write a memo or a letter to employees concerned as the case may be:<br />

To: All Supervisors<br /> From: Manager HR<br /> Subject: Tea break<br /> Date:<br /> <br /> From next week all supervisors and their staff will take a ten minute tea break at 10:50 a.m. instead of 12:15 p.m.<br /> <br /> Because of large work order, all employees must utilize their peak hours for increased production. By bringing tea time a bit earlier all operatives will get two key hours before they go for their lunch break at 1:00 p.m. Please ensure that you implement the new tea break time in your respective sections from next week. <br />
  6. 6. Case 1<br /> M. Kashif is a sales executive at M Rock. His job description includes sending response to customer complaints and letters. Mrs. M. Altaf one of your regular customers has written to you a disturbing letter that she has received no response to her letter of complaint sent three weeks ago. <br /> M Rock’s policy is to respond immediately to customer complaints and in this case the burden falls on M. Kashif. Issue a reprimand without using harsh words to your employee also asking him to let you know if he has other backlog to be cleared for which you could provide him some assistance.<br />
  7. 7. Case 2 <br /> Yesterday it was reported to you that two of your staff members were involved in fist fight outside the office in car park area. This fight was witnessed by members of public and customers and damaged the reputation of the company. Things may further aggravate as the matter has also been brought to the notice of police.<br /> Issue a strict and formal reprimand to one of the two employees namely R. Asad informing him that such playground behavior would not be tolerated and difference must be settled in an adult manner and personal conflict must be resolved away from workplace. If the employee is found involved again on company property and in company time he would be dismissed from service. <br />
